Town Linked With Rebuffed Bid for Preston Striker
Wednesday, 11th Jan 2017 21:35

Preston North End are reported to have turned down a seven-figure Town bid for striker Jordan Hugill.

According to the Lancashire Evening Post, the Blues offered around £1.5 million for the 24-year-old, who has established himself as a regular with the Lilywhites this season.

Preston are said to be keen to hold on to the Middlesbrough-born frontman they bought from Port Vale in June 2014 for £25,000 youth compensation but may be tempted by a higher offer. Hugill signed a contract which runs until the summer of 2019 earlier in the season.

Rumours linking the Blues with a move for Hugill have been circulating on the TWTD Forum for the last week.

Prior to his spell with the Valiants, who would receive a percentage of the fee should Preston sell, 6ft tall Hugill played in non-league with Seaham Red Star, Consett, Whitby Town and Marske United.

While with Vale Hugill spent time on loan with Gateshead, then following his move to Deepdale had stints with Tranmere and Hartlepool during the 2014/15 season.

Hugill has scored 13 goals in 28 starts and 37 sub appearances for the Lilywhites, including six so far this season.

Any minute now and there's going to be an interview with MM where he starts describing Leon Best as different class again as he's going the only one available for our budget!

How many more players are we going to be 'linked' to?...we're like a desperate singleton in a night club trying it on with everybody (and not having much success).

I've honestly never even heard of this guy.

I'd rather use the money to pay McCarthy off.

No one wants to sell in Jan, it's usually the unwanted players or the ones that wanna leave their club or loan listed so will be hard to buy someone

Never heard of him & we had offered over a million for him.
Keep pursuing with ward. just get your wallet out Evans & stop messing about.

Why dont we buy freddie sears and play him as a striker ?

Sounds a lot of money to me for a player without much pedigree. Don't we have anyone surplus to requirements we can sell for £1.5m to raise a bit of cash?

Derby are inundated with strikers now with signing Nugent. Maybe we can make an offer for one of them or "beg" them to send one out on-loan? Vernam, Wiemann, Hossell, Vydra, Russell, Jones, Blackman, Bent, Wilson, Camara, Kellan Gordon, Babos, Mason Bennett, Zanzala, Lewis Walker, Emil Jacobsen, tom Mellors - all fighting for 2 places up front. Inundated with players.

What about Rhodes on loan? He's not a regular at Middlesboro.

Let's not kid ourselves I will be surprised if we sign anyone in this window.

rewind. SUMMER 16,uninspiring .then we lose Murphy, McCarthy states that he is happy with his strike options [despite the fact that Didz is unreliable through injuries. Then when it becomes obvious McCarthy's strike options for various reasons are not scoring goals,it is announced money will be available in January.Sorted.........eeeerrrr NO,''Mick the Murphyless'' then announces January is not a good time to buy,......no sh#t Sherlock !.Evans though comes to the rescue.......with a five point plan, [scribbled on a post it note].DONT YOU JUST LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER. I honestly don't think i'll see the good times return to ITFC in my life time,im 70 and been a supporter since 1965,certainly cant see it happening whilst Evans is running the club .

Although a "striker", Micks probably lining him up as a left back!

@whoseround - those days are gone now (from clubbing) 1 failure and I was off home! :) - we (the club) could end up with big brenda at the end of it all and spend the night buying her to many G&T's (large transfer fee for a second rate player).

Go pay the money and get Ward in, He's scoring for fun in a poor Rotherham side so scoring for a crap Ipswich side will be easy!! Get Him In

We have strikers on the books, some of whom have scored for fun in the past and some of whom may be prolific in the future, IF GIVEN SOME SERVICE. Spend the money on a decent, passing, goal-scoring, central midfielder who can keep the seat warm until Dozzell comes of age. Surely we would get more for our money?

Wildly publised we are loosing money. Evans maybe considered rich but he's asset rich cash poor. As my poor old Dad used to say, beggars can't be choosers.

Well, here we are again all eagerly awaiting news. But meantime, surely, this lad won't uproot and leave Preston for Suffolk anyway. Even if Preston accept a bid from us, I think he would turn us down. Money doesn't seem to be buying much at the moment. Is Leon Best not rated by MM? He's got the height to win balls in the air for Freddie to play off. Oh well, no doubt see you all later on here!

This is a comment from Preston Northend Mad website . __Jordan Hughill has scored six goals this season but has been in and out of the side switching with Makienok for the main striking role with Robinson in support.

Surprisingly Ipswich who are struggling this season have made a bid for Hughill in the region of £1.5 million. The bid has been rejected. Hughill signed from Port Vale for a nominal fee and the offer represents a significant increase in value on what, in relaity, is a disticntly average player.

It may well be that if Ipswich increase, and Preston can find a replacement, that Grayson would consider letting the player go. ---- HELP.

Distinctly average. Sounds like a good fit.

Hopefully we can get him or someone this window...

We can't survive on 4 strikers if one gets injured we are screwed

I'm not optimistic that any serious money will be spent by ME in this window. We have little hope of getting into the play-offs, let alone winning them, nor (hopefully!) are we going to be in a relegation battle.

I cannot see ME putting up with MM indefinitely, but until he knows he can appoint someone better, he will run with what he's got. Players included.

The summer would be the best time for a change of management, but even then, don't hold your breath.

WHO?? £1.5 million for someone who's about as prolific as Frank Nouble, use the £1.5 million to get Jordan Rhodes back, that should cover his wages till the end of the season and we know he's prolific at this level, it makes sense, if we don't someone else will

who are these dullards we have with feeble attempts at signing anyone .. don't bother, we know we will end up sticking to our current under achievers.. They are good enough to have this league, but don't realise it.. Think I've said that before
