Town Confirm Signing of Forest Green Striker Moore
Saturday, 14th Jan 2017 17:31

Town have confirmed the signing of Forest Green Rovers striker Kieffer Moore on an 18-month deal, TWTD having revealed that the Blues were close to signing the 24-year-old earlier today.

Moore, who has previously played in the Championship for Yeovil, is understood to have cost a nominal fee believed to be in the region of £10,000 with his contract up at the end of the season.

The frontman, who is ineligible for Tuesday's FA Cup replay at Lincoln as he wasn't with the Blues when the first tie was played, was at Portman Road today to undergo a medical and watched this afternoon's match from the directors' box.

Torquay-born Moore, who is 6ft 5in tall, started his career with Truro City before moving on to Dorchester Town, Yeovil Town - with whom he played in the Championship in 2013/14 in which he scored five goals in 24 appearances in all competitions - and then Norwegian side Viking before signing for Vanarama National League side Forest Green in January last year, signing an 18-month deal. He joined another National League club Torquay on loan in November.

With Forest Green he has scored seven goals in 17 starts and 17 sub appearances, while he netted five times in four games for Torquay including a hat-trick. In November he won his first and only England C cap in a game against Estonia's U23s.

The striker is viewed as a prospect with the potential to play in the Championship, while the Blues are understood to have three bids in for higher profile players with Rotherham's Danny Ward - who is not in the Millers squad today - remaining a target.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has previously had success when delving into the non-league market, signing Michael Kightly from Grays when at Wolves and Tyrone Mings from Chippenham since taking over at Portman Road.

Look at the fact of how they're seated in front of the team group shot of the 1978 FA Cup finalists and winners. And yes I know times have changed, but how we're signing...Kieffer Moore, from Forest Green Rovers. Lucky us. As someone else has said online, he's like a British Balint Bajner.

Excited for this, I think he'll do a job for us. No idea why.

Best wishes to him. Hope to watch him play in a couple of seasons.

Looking forward though to some top signings - players ready to go straight into the first team.

Seems like a 6ft 5 pillar to lump up to - signing as a straight murphy replacement. Hopefully we have done our homework on this signing as the majority of MM's signings seem to drift into obscurity.

I know I am very negative about the club at present but this signing is shocking have seen him play a number of times at my local club Dorchester and he is like a really bad Peter Crouch , unless he has changed dramatically over a few seasons he is nowhere near championship standard , good luck to him though

At 10,000 K MMprobably forfeited his weeks wages.

All the best to Moore, we certainly need a tall striker, albeit Town played well today without one.

So why did he move from Forest Green to Torquay on loan, is it true he couldn't get into the Forest Green side? That is rather worrying if so but, oh well, fresh start and what a great opportunity for him.

Give him the chance to prove himself, but not expecting much.

Blimey, TWTD commentards talk a lot of crud. He's £10k. An inexpensive punt. He won't be in the first team any time soon. We work with him and in time he plays a role, or maybe he won't.

Nothing ventured....

Exactly the sort of players we should be taking a punt on. If it works out, we got a young player whom can be a useful part of the squad. If it doesn't work out it was only £10k.

Best of luck at ITFC.

Now we need to go out and buy the proven goalscorer.

Welcome to Ipswich Town!

I don't mean to disparage Forest Green, but one would hope that the coaching and support at a Championship club are at a rather higher level than a non-league one. Hopefully, MM and TC have seen something about him that can be encouraged and developed. If they are wrong, then it's only 10k gone.

This signing demonstrates the calibre of player that town can attract. We are no longer one of the so called bigger teams in this league and are not in the financial position to be paying larger fees, unlike teams like newcastle, sheff wed, leeds and villa etc. Some fans need to realise this. As for mm, he is doing the best he can with limited funds. Town would be shooting themselves in foot if they got rid of mm.

As for players that i would like town to sign, i would consider bradley dack (Gillingham), jon fleck (sheff utd), gregory (millwall).

Like every Town supporter I hope this turns out to be a good signing and the lad scores a few goals. My fear is that he will be the McCarthy style target man to hoof the ball up to.
I wish him well but pray he is a player not a lump. Someone comfortable on the ball who can do more than just head the ball on from Bart's long kicks.
Time will tell.

Welcone to the TBs Kieffer. Mick said that he had him on his radar earlier He apparently impressed when playing for Yeovil against us and then went to Norway and under the radar for a while. He is more one for the future but is fit and will be part of the squad. We need to
look under stones so I applaud Mick for bringing him in for a better look. Much more economical than the Nugents out there.

Jamie Vardy signed for then Conference team, Fleetwood Town, when he was 24. Give the guy a chance. Mings was a punt that netted us around £8m profit. I don't think for one minute that our transfer ambitions this window stop here.
