Spence: Town Deal a Great Opportunity
Tuesday, 17th Jan 2017 12:12

New signing Jordan Spence says joining Town on a deal to the end of the season is a great opportunity. The 26-year-old, who was on trial at Portman Road earlier in the season, became the Blues’ second signing of the transfer window yesterday.

"I'm really pleased and grateful to see this move happen and it's a great opportunity for me," he told the club site.

"I'm super-excited to get going and I'm really looking forward to it. It's a move that happened relatively quickly but having trained with the club a few months prior I knew all about the manager and the players, so it was an easy decision for me to sign.

"Obviously I haven't played too many matches this season, but I've always been pretty fortunate that I've been a naturally fit guy and I'll certainly be ready when the gaffer calls upon me.

"As I've mentioned, this is a great opportunity at a big football club and I'm champing at the bit to get going.”

Spence featured for the U23s in the matches at Bolton and at home to Liverpool during his trial spell in September and October.

He was released by the MK Dons last summer having joined them initially on loan in 2013 from West Ham where he came through the youth ranks.

While with the Hammers the Londoner also had spells on loan at Leyton Orient, Scunthorpe, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday. He has won England caps at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels.

Following his trial with the Blues, Spence had similar spells with Rotherham United and Birmingham City.

The new signing is not available for tonight’s FA Cup third round replay at Lincoln as he wasn't a Town player for the initial tie.

I'll echo that. Too many on here ready to get the knives out before a ball's been kicked.
Similarly they'll attack a player or team performance they haven't even seen.
We're all entitled to opinions but lets at least base them on personal experience.

As I mentioned on the other article, I see this as win /win, if he does well he earns a new deal if he doesn't then we let him go at little expense. He clearly has something about him so I think we should wait before we pass judgement on him.

Also, look at it like this - if MM wants to play 3-5-2 and stick to it, then we need cover / competition for Josh Emmanuel in that Right wing back role and this guy fits the bill for that perfectly.

Agree pencilpete. MM is sticking with 3-5-2 and Spence has been signed as cover for Josh Emmanuel.

Ah, understand the photo of Mick in today's other article now - he's already gone and borrowed one of Jordan's jackets...

Only counted 5 negative posts about this signing, all from the usual crew who even criticise Bart et al.
Personally, think Spence will be a great signing. Seen him play 3 times and thought he was excellent. Looking forward to seeing him play.

Write of the league season now, get more Jordan's in the building, give our own youth a chance, and let's have some fun with the second half of this season, and maybe unearth or qualify some talent for next season......and then let them play. MM and fun.....could happen ?!

They won't all be good enough, but our old'uns aren't much to shout about are they?

Oh, and let's take the cup seriously starting tonight. What else do we have to play for after all ?!

He is a better right back than Chambers, he'll do for me for now

Adds a bit of class and depth to the squad. Hope his stay is successful and he earns a longer term contract. In Mick we trust (??!!!)

I wish him well and hope he does great, but I still see vey little sense of these short term loans or frees. If it's just cover he's been brought in for then great, but it's unlikely he will actually play too many games. Odd one.

JAS think some have been short term cover;but others are with a view to purchase, like Murph and Jimmy Bullard.

I know there have been many failures, some abject;but this happens with all clubs.

Have also had outstanding contributions from Gio Dos Santos,Jonny Williams initially,Ryan Fraser;and now of course Tom Lawrence. The only one of those we could possibly afford is the little Welshman, because he is so injury prone.

I am encouraged by Mr McCarthy's apparent conversion to play better football, and 3-5-2,also attitude to cup games.

Would however like to see him introduce some more youth team players very gradually, which again he appears to have started doing.

Lets hope we win tonight, otherwise it could all go pear shaped again!
