McCarthy: Offers Upped But No Nearer Third Signing
Thursday, 19th Jan 2017 14:05

Town boss Mick McCarthy says the Blues have upped the offers they’ve made for players but as yet are no nearer making a third addition of the transfer window.

McCarthy, who so far has signed striker Kieffer Moore from Forest Green Rovers and free agent right-back Jordan Spence, said on Saturday that Town had made “three or four one million pound-plus bids in for players, but they’ve all been kiboshed”.

He says the Blues are currently no nearer to securing a further signing: “No, not at all. You can’t force it, they’re not free, the ones I’ve been able to get are the ones I can do.

“The other ones, trying to buy them is proving extremely difficult, as I predicted, actually.”

Have Town gone back to the players' clubs with bigger offers? “I’ve left that with [owner] Marcus [Evans], I think we’ve gone back to the clubs and increased them. They’re are other teams in as well. The ones who have got anybody to sell are in a pretty good position.

“When you think about Brentford maybe selling Hogan for £15 million, that kind of works its way down in terms of cost of replacing one in the Championship, so everything seems to be more expensive than it was.”

'I've left that to Marcus' (!?)

If Evans is fine with keeping MM at the club I can't imagine what he is bidding for these players...if anything probably lowering the initial bids!

To be honest the January window rarely results in good deals for those seeking to transfer in - too many desperate buyers! Although we did get Freddie in January.

Any of the alleged players we've bid for will have absolutely no desire in coming to ITFC. It used to be a location issue, nowadays it's because we are such a shambles of a club on and off the pitch!

We will get someone in, they'll be great for a game or two, then get injured

Considering how much transfer fees have been inflated within the top two divisions I would personally always look aboard.

Well Mick I think and your 'Tactics' did a pretty good job of putting anyone off from coming on Tuesday night

Would we be better off using a million to pay mick to go? I think so.

Please don't let this man spend anymore money on rubbish players. Use the money to but his contract out. Then start again. The team has enough quality to survive this season if managed correctly.

Yeah I can see everyone is having no trouble signing players ... only us

Andreas Weimann has just joined Wolves on loan from Derby ... the attacking creative forward thinking midfielders are not there and available at all are they ??!!!

You would have thought after recent performances and results the club would make a statement signing, something that the supporters can cling onto with a bit of hope.

Or a statement sacking

Feck off. You could buy the worlds best and still play Douglas.

Seriously , if the Club and ME had any ambition they would have broken the bank to get some profile signings in this week . SO so bored of Milne and his highlighting that we have already made 2 signings......no wow factor there !!. But we are Ipswich, what else should we expect ?

We could pick up a couple of Lincloln players, can't be that expensive and won't be any worse than what we have now..

I don't care Mick, to be honest!!

What will really annoy me, is if we sack Mick after January! Sack him ASAP and get in a new manager to get in targets he wants to buy in his philosophy! We've left it too late now anyway, which shows this club do not look to the future with the current hierarchy!!!

MM has picked the players and more importantly picked the tactics that have got us to where we are at the moment. I get that he's not had much money, but he still calls the tactical shots. The way we play and are set up to play are all down to him. That's what is so frustrating about all the promises about seeking other players. Unless we change our tactics, which have been embarrassingly dull and negative there's no point bringing new players in.

Lincoln demonstrated how bad this is. Do we have any confidence we will start to play the kind of football that the fans want to see and which will win us games with the current management team?

The end of this season has to be last chance saloon for MM and given the run of games we now have I can't see where the points are going to come from. It's all quite depressing.

"The ones who have got anybody to sell are in a pretty good position."

Just like we should've been after selling Wickham, Cresswell and Mings then.
