McCarthy Confirms Diagouraga Loan and Taylor Set to Train With Town
Saturday, 21st Jan 2017 18:03

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Leeds midfielder Toumani Diagouraga will be joining the Blues on loan and that former Newcastle United centre-half Steven Taylor will be training with the squad on Monday.

“Yes, that’s going to happen,” McCarthy said regarding 29-year-old Diagouraga. “[He’s someone to add a bit of power to the midfield] and a bit of ability.

“He was the one at Brentford that got on the ball and started it all off in that really good team that got in the play-offs, I’m delighted with that one.

With several first-teamers out injured McCarthy needs to add senior players to his squad.

“I look in the dressing room there, Diggers has just come back from being out for eight weeks and I thought he did well today,” he added.

“Jordan Spence has come in after not playing a game all season, we’ve signed one from Forest Green in Kieffer Moore, who I thought did well in his time on the pitch.

“I’ve got Tristan Nydam on the bench and Adam McDonnell travelling, it’s been a tough old season for that. So yes, it would be nice to have some fresh faces.”

Is the Diagouraga loan with a view to a longer-term deal? “Funny that, that’s always the question, we’re taking on loan until the end of the season.”

Diagouraga joined the Whites from Brentford last January and has made 14 starts and 16 sub appearances, scoring three goals, but his only game this season was on the opening day of the campaign.

TWTD revealed that the Blues were targeting Taylor on Friday morning and McCarthy confirmed that he would be running the rule over the 30-year-old in the week: “He’s coming to train on Monday.”

Given his experience in the Premier League, the Blues boss says he could be a significant asset to the squad: “If he’s fit, he’s been out in America playing [with the Portland Timbers] and we’ll have a look at him next week. He was a very good player.”

I haven't been on here for some time as I vowed not to comment until both Evans and McCarthy has left OUR beloved club. But it seems that neither are going so along with many suggesting a boycott of the next HOME game, which I never ever thought would happen to ITFC; I think it's time we did protest. I will go further in saying we need to try and attract a new buyer, someone that will invest and listen to the supporters. So here's an idea. It seems we will have to join the many clubs in the top two divisions that are owned with foreign investment. So people, WRITE to as many CEO Billionaires in China,Russia, America in an attempt to find a decent buyer that will invest and grow to love the club as we all do.

Drastic times call for drastic measures.

I'm struggling to control my excitement about a 29 year old who can't get a game for a fellow Championship side joining us on loan.

"Delighted" with the loan signing of Diagouraga? Mick is easily pleased. Back to our failed policy of signing players in their late 20s / early 30s on loan who cannot get into the teams of rival Championship clubs. However, as a defensive midfielder I suppose he cannot be worse than Douglas and probably Skuse too - Cole has been a core member of our midfield for a long time, but that midfield is failing.

So that's another player to do skuse's job not the answer to playing attractive entertaining football that was promised by Evans and McCarthy!!

Good to see they're sticking to point 3 of the 5 point plan....

Another defensive midfielder not good enough for Leeds. It's shocking. No money (well ten grand) spent by Evans again. This is a complete and utter nightmare. Evans only does cheap.

Big deal big man if that's all you can attract to our great club, kindly do one and go

Keep reminding ourselves of Marcus Evans' 5 point plan, particularly:

3 — ‘To make annual investment funds available to purchase players in the early stages of their career and to assist in their development'
5 — ‘To develop a team to play attractive and exciting football'

Needs to look at the 23s now and develop them into the first team or at least give them the opportunity. The seasons is over and its time to rebuild with youth and new signings not loan players; otherwise we will be in the same position next season.

Quality player! Always thought he was the yaya of the championship and now he'll get the chance of playing alongside the Michael Carrick of the championship! Bright days ahead. Sarcasm not intended.

I just don't care. They will be played out of position with the same worn out tactics and prove to be completely ineffective. Same stick, same dead horse. But not to worry, over the summer Mick will sit back and think about his performance. Evans will tell him he's doing a good job and same time next year we will still be moaning.

TimmyH added 18:31 - Jan 21
If he had ability as Mick says I'm sure Gary Monk would'nt be letting him go on loan and keep him for cover, I reckon Mick wants him in next to Skuse and sadly get more protection for the defense and that means less creativity in the middle.

Quote Millsey "Very good layer at Brentford. Good signing" Well if he is a good layer he can't be a he but on the plus side McCarthy can have eggs for his breakfast.
Sorry I just can't take the clown McCarthy seriously anymore.

I take my hat off to ME, we are going to have a transfer window where he has managed to spend a poultry £10,000 and the addition of freebies on a squad that is in desperate need of investment and quality. There is no doubt our owner is tighter than a duck's ar*e ! It really is embarrassing being a fan of Ipswich, just scrapping the bargain basement thinking that will suddenly make us a god side. If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.
