Diagouraga One of Five Changes at Preston
Saturday, 28th Jan 2017 14:44

New loanee Toumani Diagouraga is handed his Town debut as Mick McCarthy makes five changes to his team for today’s game at Preston North End.

Bartosz Bialkowski returns in goal with Dean Gerken back on the bench, while Josh Emmanuel is at right-back in a four-man backline with Jordan Spence and Paul Digby dropping to the bench.

Andre Dozzell is left out of the 18, while Grant Ward starts on the right of midfield with Diagouraga in the middle alongside Cole Skuse with Tom Lawrence on the left. Brett Pitman returns to the side alongside Freddie Sears up front.

David McGoldrick and Teddy Bishop are both among the subs having got over hamstring and ankle injuries respectively.

New signing Danny Rowe is at the game but isn’t involved, while Steven Taylor’s international clearance is yet to come through.

Town target Jordan Hugill starts for the home side having overcome a knee injury, while winger Daryl Horgan, who Blues boss McCarthy watched playing for Dundalk prior to his move to Deepdale, is among the subs.

Preston: Maxwell, Vermijl, Clarke (c), Huntington, Spurr, Gallagher, Pearson, Johnson, McGeady, Robinson, Hugill. Subs: Lindegaard, Boyle, Browne, Horgan, May, Makienok, Beckford.

Town: Bialkowski, Knudsen, Chambers (c), Berra, Skuse, Diagouraga, Ward, Lawrence, Emmanuel, Pitman, Sears. Subs: Gerken, Bishop, McGoldrick, Spence, DIgby, Bru, Moore. Referee: Steven Martin (Staffordshire).

With the players MM has, this is a decent selection. Certainly not a top six side, but equally plenty good enough to beat Preston.

More optimistic than before recent games let's hope for a favourable result.

Glad to see we are back to 4-4-2. (hopefully the wide midfielders are not played as supplementary full back as Mick likes to employ
Would liked to have seen Diagouraga in for Shuse playing alongside Bru.
We also have decent options on the bench.
It is just the out of form Berra, Chambers and Knudsen that worries me.
Hopefully we will get something out of the game but may need to score at least 2 or 3 to do so

Can't fault the line up, let's hope we use the ball abit more, retain possession and string a few passes together instead of leathering it down the channels every time.

That looks a decent line-up. No Douglas at all, I see. COYB!

Emmanuel deservedly back in the starting line up...not surprised Diagouraga is starting either.

Best of luck...expecting a point today.

WHAT a goal from Lawrence, beats two men AND smashes in the back of the net.Up until then Town have been under the cosh and lucky not to be one down. Can we ride our luck,I hope so.All of a sudden it's got a lot warmer.!!
Hopefully will be a happy drive home, but won't count my chickens yet.

Must punish teams, not sit back on slender leads. Nevermind.. Not too cheesed off. Must do better even when we pick up.
