Lawrence Nominated for Championship Player of the Month Award
Thursday, 9th Feb 2017 06:30

Town top scorer Tom Lawrence has been nominated for the SkyBet Championship Player of the Month award for January.

The 23-year-old is up against two former Blues loanees for the gong, Leeds United striker Chris Wood and Brighton keeper David Stockdale, as well as Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ralls. The winner will be announced on Friday.

Wales international Lawrence, who is on loan at Portman Road for the season from Leicester, enjoyed a fantastic January, netting six of the 10 goals he has scored so far for the Blues, including a number of Goal of the Season candidates, among them the strike below at Preston.

The last Town player to win the Player of the Month award was Daryl Murphy in November 2015. The Irishman also won in December 2014 with Tyrone Mings picking up the trophy in September of the same year and David McGoldrick winning in September 2013.

Are you watching Jonny Williams? This is stuck on. Well done Tom. Now get fit Jonny and show us and Tom what you can do. We may yet need you both to get through this season unscathed.

Brilliant player. Imagine him, Jonny and Emyr in the same line up for us...... dreams are free I guess.........

Well deserved, although two of his goals were in the FA Cup, which I don't think is taken into account for this award.

Didn't Connor Wickham win this once as well?

6 goals in January, 3 of which were absolute crackers.

The belter at QPR, the long range, top corner pile-driver against Blackburn and the wondrous bit of trickery and finish at Preston. That's if you exclude running from his own half against Lincoln and the other goals against Blackburn and Lincoln which were both from outside the area.

Yet Peter Beagrie, who seems to really dislike Ipswich, didn't see fit to include him in his 628 man shortlist. Did we injure him in the run in back when Bradford pipped us to second or something?

Fatboy

He did, in September 2011, was just including the more recent ones. Kevin Horlock won in October 2004, the only time a Town player won it before that.

I bet Leicester wish they could recall Lawrence this season. I doubt he'll leave them.tnh. Next season he'll be scoring goals against us.

He certainly will not stay at Leicester in the championship he is destined for greater things if he carries on his present form.
It was a good deal signing him for a full season if he does not get kicked out of it on the pitch that is!!!!!
