Hyam and Smith in U23s at West Brom
Monday, 13th Feb 2017 11:37

Town have confirmed that Luke Hyam and Tommy Smith will both play for the U23s this evening in their Premier League Cup tie against West Brom at the Hawthorns (KO 7pm).

Hyam will be playing his first game since suffering a knee injury in the pre-season friendly at Cambridge which eventually required surgery.

Smith, who played the full 90 minutes of last Monday’s 8-0 hammering of Watford, will be continuing his comeback after the back operation he underwent in September.

Also involved against the Baggies, who the Blues beat 2-1 at Portman Road in the same competition in November, will be Andre Dozzell, Ben Morris and Tristan Nydam.

Town are bottom of Premier League Cup Group G with just the three points from that win against tonight's opponents having been defeated in their three other games.

U23s: Crowe, Fowler, Woolfenden, Hyam, C Smith, T Smith, Blanchfield, Dozzell, Morris, McLoughlin, McKendry. Subs: Nydam, Hayes, McDonnell, Robinson, Folami.

Keep going Tommy, hopefully the next manager will make you captain.

Hopefully they can both come through 90 minutes with no ill effects and be a step nearer to challenging for a first team place. Both had a frustrating season and lack of competition on Berra from Smith and Skuse & Douglas from Hyam has been a contributory factor in what has been a poor season. These two back and hopefully Williams before the season is over, will certainly add competition for places and cover for injuries.

Keeping to topic....

I met this gentleman at the training ground, his words to me I will always remember.

" I use to watch Ipswich from the stands when I was growing up as a boy, to be playing in the shirt now is a dream come true ....an honour "

He truly is one of our own, I hope to see him at the game on sat ...sub perhaps ?

Yes hope he is captain.....Cant help myself ....under a new manager.....

Everyone talking about the captaincy like Chambers has done a bad job???

He's passionate and communicates well, I agree that TS would make a great captain, he has hardly played this season and therefore would not of been a very good choice for a captain role.

He will be one day,and I'm sure he'll do a great job but in the meantime I think we have a fantastic captain in Chambo and it's about time we get behind this manager instead of waiting for the next person to keep us up on a shoestring budget!
