McCarthy Yet to Speak to Diagouraga About Future
Monday, 6th Mar 2017 15:56

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’s yet to sound Toumani Diagouraga out about joining the Blues on a permanent basis in the summer, as he has with fellow loanee Emyr Huws, but says he expects the Frenchman to be surplus to requirements at Leeds.

“No, I haven’t,” said McCarthy when asked if he had spoken to Diagouraga. “It sounds like I’ve favoured one rather than the other but it’s not the case. I was just talking to Ems and I asked him how he felt.

“I think Toums would be surplus to requirements at Leeds as well but Ems certainly was at the time [at Cardiff], I don’t know, that might change but I think Neil Warnock is signing a new contract and if the feeling is still the same then I kind of know what will be happening with him, and he does as well.”

McCarthy has already confirmed that Leon Best, who he has said won’t play for him again, and Giles Coke will be leaving at the end of the season but says he’s not in a position to reveal whether anyone else will be moving on.

“No, none that I would be prepared to discuss,” he added. “Giles has been injured and I had the discussion with him months ago, he knew full well what his position was. I just hope we can get him fit and he can go and, hopefully, play somewhere else.”

McCarthy says he’s not yet been able to look at planning for next season in any great detail.

“I’ll be honest with you, over the last six or eight weeks I’ve not been doing anything other than trying to find a solution to how we were playing and trying to get us playing better,” he continued.

“Of course, I’ve got an eye on everything that’s going on. But for now I just want to make sure we keep picking up points and make sure we’ve got enough then we can deal with it.”

How can we plan for next year you stupid Dino!,!until you gracefully tell us what your plans are????. It's laughable really that it's in his hands at all IMO. It appears that the last 6/8 weeks have also been wasted, based on saturdays woeful display.

1. How will you feel about playing second fiddle to Skuse?
2. Will you sign for us for £12.50 a week and the benefits of free Olympic tickets for his family (all above board)
3. Don't get ideas above your station regarding being creative, running with the ball or scoring just be mindful of the defense above all else.

If all the answers to the above are yes your future lays with us and a delighted Mick.

Some seriously dull ITFC fans based on previous posts... We have been much better over the last month yet just one pretty dull display brings you back out of the cracks in the pavement.

If the next few games go the same way then I'd start to agree but the short-termist attitude is intellectual pygmyism.

Looks like the pro Mick snipers are well and truly out in style after a w/e of hibernating, apart from the sneaky few, who were busy on the "downer arrow". Come on you lemmings, post something worth while ffs!! Respect of course to the pro lads who did actually post, swn, Geddis & gcon to name but a few!!!!!

If Skuse is going to be a regular next season, then there is little point signing the Leeds fella.

Iamspartacus, honest question: did you think the Norwich game was a vast improvement over the previous few weeks too? Defending for the majority of the game against a side well out of form (the form table over the last six games puts them well below us), lumping it away every time the ball was near our six yard box to let Sears chase after lost causes, and not really giving it a go to win the the game smacked of the same old same old to me.

I don't believe the 'Mick Out-ers' have been anywhere over the last couple of weeks, it's just the 'Mick-lovers' have been in full volume lately because we haven't lost over the last few games. Everyone's entitled to their opinions, let's all be civil now.

But back on topic, I think we should be making serious efforts to keep this guy. He has a different footballing attitude to Skuse, and makes us a more positive force. I like him, but fear for Hyam if he were to sign... and haven't we all been grumbling that Mick hasn't given our own youngsters (not so young in Hyam's case I suppose) enough of a chance?

Cat, for the record, I am neither pro nor anti McCarthy. I just don't think he deserves all the criticism he gets on here. Yes, the football has been awful with a few exceptions since Brentford at home last season, but other than the hopeless Douglas/Skuse partnership, he usually picks what I consider more or less the best players available. It is notable how often our skillful players have been injured leaving the likes of Hyam having to play. When available, he has played the people we pay money to see and I believe we are just an average championship team at best. If he had a load of money to spend and a squad full of great players like say Derby or Norwich, I would be the first to join in giving him both barrels if we were outside the playoffs like they both are. I honestly don't think any manager would have us challenging for promotion with this squad.

Geddis, the squad assembled by MM you mean, and play in a way instructed by him!. I'm not all about promotions and trophys, (but we live in hope) it's about the negative tactics and hoofball. The way he set up on Saturday was nothing short of embassasing and disgraceful in a home fixture. It's all about the entertainment fo me, and playing the game the RIGHT way.

That was more or less the same team as v Reading, one of our best performances. I didn't think it was an embarrassing selection? Back 3 did well v Norwich so I would have kept them. Spence deserved to stay in the team as did Kemlock. Ward and Huws in the middle to try and get a goal with Skuse the cover that any team playing 3 5 2 has to have. Front 2 pick themselves. I didn't see hoofball. Even Chambers tried to pass it but was derided for doing so when it didn't come off. Not that we played well, we obviously didn't, but it was more to do with player performances rather than tactics or selection, in my view anyway. Subs were like for like though Pitman or Sears should really be ahead of Moore. What would you change for tomorrow ?

Geddis - The changes I'm talking about won't be implemented in 24 hours, and not with the current players who are available!, it's more of a long term vision. I expressed my views on this on another topic earlier which I'm sure is going down a storm, lol!!!, so I won't be repeating it now.

The current stats don't lie though, and it does not suggest anything other than negative tactics and it's not pleasant reading.

Looking through our squad list I think we should be offloading:
Gerken
Taylor
Best
Skuse
Douglas
Bru
Coke
Digby

All are below average (Taylor being the exception but we can't justify his wages if he's always injured)

And offering deals/making "serious" bids for
Huws
Diagourara
Spence
Jonny Williams (if we can get him on a free/lower wages)

Unfortunately not a hope in hell of signing Lawrence.

Lightning. If you can't justify Taylor, surely you can't justify Williams. Injury frequency worsens with age.

Cat what you don't seem to understand is yes it's MM squad assembled on the pittance he is given I'm sure his squad would be much different under other circumstances
Geddis couldn't agree more you don't have to like or dislike MM imo with the resources available his is the safest hand on the tiller.

'Dave' looked a bit sluggish to me against Brentford;so not sure about whether he is worth signing permanently.Still doesn't matter what I think,as signing will be made,or not without my input!
