Kenlock Signs New Deal
Monday, 27th Mar 2017 18:16

Town have confirmed that left-back Myles Kenlock has signed a new contract which runs until the summer of 2019 with an option for a further season. Manager Mick McCarthy recently revealed that the 20-year-old was close to agreeing new terms with his current deal up this summer.

“Obviously I am delighted to have signed a new contract here,” Kenlock told the club site.

“I feel I have made a lot of progress this year and it’s been great to have been involved in the first-team squad regularly and playing games in the Championship.

“I know that I have still got a lot to learn in the game but this is a great club to be learning at and I want to keep moving forward.”

Having come through the Town academy Kenlock has made 14 senior starts and two sub appearances.

Great news, well deserved Myles! Now keep playing him Mick and stop tinkering with the defence

I recall that McCarthy(hasn't he gone yet?)signed a left back called Jonathan Parr, who could not get in the first team in his position at left back.Fair enough as we then had Cressey in that position.

So when he left for West Ham for a lot of money, which like several others since ,Evans didn't reinvest much of it;everybody thought that Jonny would slot in nicely at left back.
However Mick in his wisdom brought in a rookie Tyrone Mings and eventually Parr had to go back to his home country in Scandinavia to get regular football; after seeing Jonas Knudsen arrive from Denmark so he still couldn't get in the team.

Jonas Knudsen, hasn't actually shone at left back;but looks much better at left centre back in a three;but as soon as Smithy is fit, back he comes, and out goes Kenlock to be replaced by Knudsen.

The pattern is therefor being repeated;so lets hope the same doesn't happen to Kenlock that happened to Jonny Parr,as I feel that like JP he is a good LB, better than JK.

Not sure how long Josh Emmanuel has left on his contract;but it is a smiliar situation with him.Hardly getting a game as Luke Chambers was the permanent Right Back, until recently when he was moved inside when the team switched to 3 at the back.Thought JE did ok then at rb;but now appears to have been pushed out by Jordan Spence who had been without a club for 6 months after leaving MK Dons, failed a trial last September;but was taken on this January.

Shows what a nonsense Evans 5 point plan is, as one of the targets is to bring through more youngsters from the Academy.Seems that Mick can stick to fingers up to Evans over this, just as he appears to be able to decide when he goes.

Wonder who is running this club?Whoever it is they are doing a terrible job;and both should go before we end up like Coventry or Blackpool.

you do realise that if they just 'go' the likelihood is we would more than likely end up in administration, down at least one league, maybe two, and very unlikely to ever get back up?

Hello ! Dino has come to life after his Break in Kent ??? (he is still here then) Well done Kenlock for signing new contract. Now to get prepared for the 2 cup finals coming up, as Birmingham are on the same wavelength and preparing for a cup final as well. we need the 6pts. badly

Seasider, Jonny Parr was technically Cressy's replacement, think he signed after Cressy left. I definitely thought he should of been above Mings and Knudsen though. Let's hope Kenlock just keeps working hard, as fans that's all we can ask for, although it seems him and Emmanuel have to work twice as hard as everyone else

Strange running style, if he pumped his arms properly he could probably get another extra mile or two per hour. But obviously we want a top defender rather than a top sprinter! Good luck Myles and hope you can establish yourself as bright first team regular. :-)

Good to see another academy product getting recognition.
If Evans did pull the plug we would need someone significantly wealthier to step in. Preferably someone who did not want to pick the playing team and endlessly meddle with it. Who might such a person be.....????

Great news. The fact that Mick never plays Kenlock and Emmanuel at the same time says how much he trusts them! They have bags of potential, so play them as much as possible for goodness sake!

When Myles plays, it is Spence at RWB and when Emmanuel plays, it's Knudsen at LB! Stop copping and changing and leave at the end of the season!!

A to learn but has clear potential and needs game time to realise that. Perhaps could improve in the attacking sense but he get's in the positions so it's just improving once he's there. Must be ahead of JK next season.

Although those saying JP should have been above Mings have obviously forgotten what a great outlet Mings was at left back for us.

Great news - with the new 7 at the back formation we have been playing in recent weeks we will need as many defenders on board as possible.

Great news and well deserved! Has played well! Just wish emanuel would get more games, dont rate Spence at all, but for some reason he gets more game time than Emanuel! Back 4 for next season should be kenlock, webster, smith and emmanuel.. hopefully!

Feel very happy for Myles, but he is 20 ! Why has it taken the Club so long to give him, one of our own, a chance. He is clearly the best in his position at the Club now, what would he have been by now with some faith from the management.

Strokes me as another dereliction of duty by the management and a failure to even adhere the Club's self-proclaimed philosophy to promote our own. On which point the Season ticket literature is enough to turn my stomach.

'League 1 player...'

Might come in handy then!

Joking aside, good luck to the lad.
