Huws Keen to Stay But No Talks Yet
Wednesday, 26th Apr 2017 17:58

Loanee midfielder Emyr Huws has reiterated his desire to stay with the Blues next season but says he’s yet to speak to anyone regarding a permanent switch from his parent club Cardiff City.

Wales international Huws, 23, has two years left on his Bluebirds contract having signed for them from Wigan last summer, but had made only two starts and two sub appearances prior to his move to Town in January.

"I've really enjoyed my time at Ipswich so far,” he said in an interview with Saturday’s match programme.

“Everyone has been really good to me, and it's been a really good part of my career. It's big to have people you know here, it helps you settle in much quicker.

"It was nice to see some familiar faces like Jonny [Williams] and Tom [Lawrence] when I came in, but it is one of the best changing rooms I've ever been in, so there was never any problems settling in. The environment here is really good.

"I've not spoken to anyone about being here next season yet, we're just focusing on the last couple of games and to finish strong, then we'll see what happens after that.

"I have really enjoyed myself here though, so hopefully we can sort something."

Huws has scored three times in 11 starts for the Blues, including the third goal in the 3-1 at home to Newcastle.

Would be a solid signing, seems to suit the way we play. I still think we would require another playmaker in the middle of the park, whilst clearing out the deadwood and letting Dozzell/Bish/Benyu out on loan.

Need to sort out the new manager first.

We have needed a midfielder like him for a long time. Good box to box player in the Matt Holland / Tommy Miller mould. I like him. Sign him up!

Although Mick says he is staying, it seems weird that no contracts have been tied up for next season with only two games to go. ME is really taking the p*ss if he thinks we can get through next season with what is on offer at the moment.

Huws is a fantastic player, wants to stay, has dropped wages to come to us this season, so for god's sake they should be trying to tie him down before he goes elsewhere!

He's been excellent. If we are serious about promotion, then we need to be signing these type of players, who will command a fee and competitive wages. It's a slight worry that talks haven't begun. His performances will have been noted and I wouldn't be surprised if other clubs have already made an enquiry.

2 years left on his contract, presumably at higher wages than Evans wants to pay. Cardiff will also want a fee (Huws cost Wigan £2.5m) which again Evans won't want to pay. Yes, Huws took a pay cut to come here & he clearly want to play football, but other clubs will be in for him & under the current ownership it's very unlikely that he'll be coming to Town.

A good addition if sign him(although he will not have Tom and Jonny here) I would like somebody to come out and tell us what is going on there is a very unsettled feel around our club at present re players contracts(for them and their families) but we are only mushrooms not fans and will continue to be treated as such!!!! what has happened to the club I have supported through good and bad for 58 years!??.

Definitely want him to stay. Whether a deal can be done quickly or not when he's wanted and he wants to stay would be a reasonably good indication as to what the summer holds...

@Radlett_Blue - Huws did cost Wigan £2.5m, but he only cost Cardiff around £1m. I'd expect they'd want their money back, but given Warnock has said Huws has no future there, we might be able to get him for around £750k?

That would bring him close the Webster/Ward type level of deal and is very doable.

Funny how there has been no news on how well/ bad season ticket sales have gone seeing as the early bird chance has now expired. Would like to see Huws become a permanent fixture in the team, but can we or will afford him.

- Decent player.
- Popular with fans.
- Wants to play for the club.
- Cost more than 10k....

Really hope we get him.

Yeah, £750k could be a fair price as Huws is right out of favour at Cardiff & Warnock will want funds to buy another 4 or 5 strikers. Evans has been willing to pay these sort of sums for young players with sell on potential & Huws does come into this category. However, I feel everything is still on hold at Town as Evans mulls over whether he wants to sell so he won't commit. And wages are likely to be a sticking point - other clubs will fancy Huws & probably pay him more than us.

You thought there might have been some informal communication or indication from ITFC that we are interested in keeping him.

If Cardiff sign a player for £1M and he doesn't make it there, they would be lucky to get £750K back. Whenever Ipswich sign a flop we never get any money back, and often have to pay them to leave!

Totally agree Mark. I have lost count of the number of players we have ended up paying to leave over many years, especially in the Keane and Jewel eras - many of which have gone of to do very well with their new clubs, including some in the Prem.

A must in my book, a goal scoring midfielder, PRICELESS. Cannot say I'm too excited about anything ITFC wise at the mo, unless of course our DREADED DINO DEPARTS, then we can all unite and get behind our club.

.......... that's it Ipswich - drag your feet again until someone else signs him up. Par for the course.

....... freebies and has beens will be top priority again - MM will still be here, and as previously not ask for any money to be spent, for fear of having to show a return from such.

And some will think I'm joking .... !! - I'm NOT.

I am guessing that the Murphy money will not be invested- offset against loses.
If we sell Bart the money must be spent on a centre forward otherwise we are down.
Looks like Berra and Chambers will be on their way as well- its a sorry state

Are we even getting a new kit for 17/18?

What the hell are the club playing at . Negotiations for Huws should have started already , likewise Chambers and Berra should know what their future is . It all gives the impression no one knows what's going on .............time for ME to get things sorted .......

Young, talented, we want him, he wants to stay... What is the issue?

I really will despair for our club if we drag our feet over Huws and end up missing out...he's arguably the best central midfielder we've had here for a good few seasons and a total no brainer that we should be busting a gut to sign him permanently.

Whoever's in charge come the summer needs to Clear out all of the dead wood - I wonder how much money has been wasted on the lieks of Coke & Best's wages? - this is where McCarthy wastes a lot of cash, signing players Stevie Wonder could spot as poor options - been far too many of them over the last few seasons - quality rather than quantity please.

And a quality manager while we're at it.

Couple of things to note.

Huws, along with nearly all the other players, are very positive about MM and the atmosphere within the squad. Thats very positive going forward. He may not want to come here if another manager is in charge.

He's also (quite rightly imo) fishing for a move. Its a statement that says "i want to play football come and get me". This is not just directed @ ITFC, hes not a Blue at heart (yet) so any decent club will do. He's playing the game.

I hope we land him, but we may not be the only one in for him at this point in time.
