Benyu's Aldershot Reach Play-Offs
Sunday, 30th Apr 2017 00:32

Kundai Benyu’s loan side Aldershot beat Braintree 2-0 on Saturday afternoon to confirm their place in the Vanarama National League play-offs and relegate the Essex side.

The Shots, with whom 19-year-old Benyu has been on loan since December, finished fifth in the table and will take on second-placed Tranmere Rovers in the play-off semi-finals.

Aldershot host the first leg at the Recreation Ground on Wednesday with the second match at Prenton Park on Saturday.

Benyu has enjoyed a hugely successful spell with the Shots and Town boss Mick McCarthy has said the club will be taking up a one-year option on his current contract and offering the midfielder, who is yet to make his Blues debut, new terms.

Good lad - would like the likes of McDonnell / Blanchfield and others to go out on loan and push on. COYB

Went along to see this young man play. Was involved in everything and certainly one for the future. They play fluent attacking football as a team and it was refreshing to watch.
He made chances throughout the game and never feared playing the ball on the deck.
As a team they all seem to get on and played for each other. The shots have certainly done well with "benny" and he plays well with Mensah who has just signed for another season with them.
Well done Kundai, and good luck for the remainder of this week!

Great to see one of our youngsters excelling in a very tough and competitive league.
I expect him to around the first team squad next season , would be cool to see him, Bish and Hyam in an all academy midfield :)

Without putting weight on his shoulders, expecting big things from him next season. Think he could be a strong influence in midfield with Huws and Ward.

Moisha, Not if Micks in charge still, he's ruined some very good players with negative tactics and Hoof ball

As an Essex boy, sorry about Braintree, who have been punching above their weight at this level;but I am very pleased for Kundai who looks to have bags of potential.

Constantly amazed at comments we will see young players being given a chance next year, there isn't a chance with Dino in charge. If he is still in charge expect a ream full of proper blokes all youth loaned out, ruined or released. Why anyone expects anything different after 4 years of this boggles the mind.

Had the pleasure of watching Benny at Aldershot on Saturday and was well worth giving up my place at Portman road. Watching this lad craft and create chances was pleasing to the eye and just what we've been missing under Evans and Mick. I've watch Benny during his time at Ipswich and he always showed talent but never looked like he was enjoying himself. What a transformation under the influence of Gary W and James R at Aldershot. He's enjoying his football, showing flair and smiling ear to ear. So different to his time here and a sad indictment on our club.
Now Aldershot are in the playoffs and with their skills and team spirit will hopefully make their way into the football league. I wish them the very best of luck against Tramere, Wednesday and then on Saturday, followed by a trip to Wembley.

I think this has been MM's conundrum over the entire 4.5 years he's been here..."How do I accommodate a Creative player in the team"?
On the one side : The players fully respect him, there is terrific team work ethic,.... but MM will always play's % (percentage) football - pressurise the opposition, get knock-downs & (hopefully) take one or two of our occasional chances. There is very little room left for creativity in MM's Mindset, as this could increase the % risk of losing possession in 'dangerous' areas (i.e. our half).
Unless the player is proven & reliable Top quality player (Lawrence/McGoldrick) whom MM has total faith in - I frankly do not see how MM will ever allow creative players (such as Dozzell/Benyu/Bishop) into the midfield.
