Disappointing Night for Benyu and Aldershot in Front of Blues Bosses
Wednesday, 3rd May 2017 21:14

Kundai Benyu and his loan side Aldershot had an evening to forget as the 19-year-old midfielder - watched by Town boss Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor - was forced off injured during the second half of a 3-0 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers in the first leg of their Vanarama National League play-off semi-final.

The Shots were already two goals behind - the second a howler from keeper Jake Cole - before Benyu hurt a knee when making a sliding challenge. Having briefly continued following treatment, the academy product was eventually replaced in the 63rd minute.

Aldershot, who finished fifth in the National League, 13 points behind second-placed Rovers, have a mountain to climb in the away leg at Prenton Park on Saturday with Benyu almost certainly doubt.

The central midfield player has enjoyed a hugely successful spell with the Shots, scoring five goals in 22 starts and one sub appearance since joining them in December.

Blues boss McCarthy has said the club will be taking up a one-year option on Benyu's current contract, which was otherwise set to end this summer, and offering the midfielder a new longer-term deal.

Camden-born Benyu, who also qualifies to play for Zimbabwe, is yet to make his senior debut for the Blues but has been on the first-team bench on four occasions.

I was at the game as I go to uni near Aldershot, and from what I could tell from the fans around me, Kundai is a fans favourite down there. He made an amazing tackle that saved a counter attack for the Shots, and was applauded from all corners of the ground when taken off. He is going to be a very good player in the future, and I hope to see him in an Ipswich shirt next season making some appearances.

It sounds like a very successful loan spell. Benyu will be 20 later in the year, so I really would like to see him come into the Ipswich side and make an impact. We must have confidence in him to talk about a longer contract than a year, so let's give the lad (and others like him) a chance in our first team. Youth has to be the way forward given our budget, yet we rarely have the confidence to play these lads.

Watched bits of the game and thought, when we got the ball, he did quite well. Played a neat ball in and the lad hit the bar and always looked to go forward. Nowadays, 19 isn't "young" when you see likes of Mbappe, Rashford and co ripping it up on the big stage. Give the young lads a chance for goodness sake!!!

Would love to see more players like Benyu getting into the first team, with our budget we need players like this. Sadly I think if the dinosaur does stay we will be more likely to buy other players from non league who are garbage, and loan some old relics that other teams don't want any more. All comes down to whether Benyu is a "proper bloke" I suppose!

MM OUT

P.S. Swn98 do you actually believe what you say or are you literally here trying to break the site record for most down arrows ever accrued?

Didn't stand out;but was part of a passing team who lacked a bit of bite up front.

As I said in previous post about the number of players going;that we need one marquee signing, plus a couple of others with the rest being drawn from the academy;in accordance with Mr Evans five point plan.

(Just luuuuv to see you upload an avatar of yourself int that particular daring & revealing costume matey! LMAO!)

Totally agree of course with you post, but also I believe I can ehmmm shed some more light on that for you .... 'Obviously' it simply must have now have become our local Suffolk UK version of the notorious "The Curse of The Bambino" .... henceforth to be known as "The Curse of the Dino"!!! :-) LMAO

A "curse" which I hereby suggest stands for = The constant wrecking of not only talented youths who helplessly falls in to his dinosauric claws , but also the wrecking of most if not often all the aspects of entertainment in the football played by the teams MM (mis)manage. ...... And oohh not to be forgotten:Additionally we seemingly cannot ever win anything again with him (and ME) at the helm either! Not promotion to 'The Promised Land' and certainly not the FA Cup again since he obviously doesn't give a monkey's aZzz for any of the 2 big domestic cup tournaments!!!

PS: To those who have never heard of the former curse ... and MIGHT be remotely interested :-) ... well fear not lol cause here then follows a concise little summary from someone who have spend several good years of his live in North America (who also on mostly on that background otherwise fairly atypically happens to not just like?! but even prefer?! the game of baseball over the imho highly susceptible of being not only cumbersome but also trivial genrally held-in-high-esteem on these British longitudes old game of Cricket).

Alas 'The Bambino' is one of 2 full-title nicknames [the other btw being the delightfully appropriate 'The Sultan of Swat'! :-) lol for his jaw-droppingly & completely unprecedented ability to literally SWAT Home Runs further and much more frequently than anybody else partaking in the so called 'American Pastime' during his active time (1914-1935), a very non-PED-existing era of course!] both belonging to one Mr. George Herman "Babe" Ruth.
..... And as for the story behind the perceived curse, well it was a wide held superstition in the State of Massachusetts at the very least!, which simply put evolved from the failure of the previous then pretty juggernaut-like & successful Boston Red Sox baseball team to win baseball's The World Series for an incredible loooong 86-year period!, stretching from 1918 -- the year the Red Sox inexcusably trade the youngster Babe Ruth to the then always struggling New York Yankees for giving his truly astronomical out-of-space talent & incredible game-changing ability then ehmm say the modern day equivalent of a 6-sixpack + a bag of Doritos!!! :-) all the way to 2004 where the Red Sox finally prevailed in the WS again ... despite btw having looked very much dead & buried in the playoffs yet AGAIN! i.e. they were 0-3 games down [to ironically them very same "evil" Yankees ] in the best of 7 games 2004 league-semifinale.

MZT - Wow what a picture!!! and a Great pair!!. I will save it, tuck it away safely and should the need arrive to pay 'HOMAGE' to any of whom I consider to be my forum pals, who are so fed up with the DINO etc that going into EXILE (desert island or igloo) is the way forward (if my 'elephant' of a memory serves me well)!! PALS meaning "the posters who are controversial, like minded, humorous & engaging, more so on the MM front as I'm still very much 'jury out' on the M.E one, or those who just love to RANT, (almost shamefully of me to admit) the foul ones"!!! either In hyper or chilled modes, it really don't matter. You could actually add to that list a 'couple' of the pro lads who I have debated with in the past, although our opinions are miles apart, a certain amount of respect has to be credited to them for there sheer knowledge of the 'beautiful game', coupled with the fact they will openly admit things are so wrong at ITFC, unlike a few blinkered others!
So, keep them pics and posts coming 'PAL', as theirs a 'hellofa' way to go to top (ironically) 'The Cat' looking in the mirror from what is by far the most famous, kick ass, side splitting, toe curling post that was 'D.O.G,' which tucked me up for days!!!

So, getting back to all things that are ITFC, my message to the Dino is this:-

Feck you very very much, please don't stay in touch. (Lol)
