Lawrence Misses Out and McGoldrick's a Doubt for Final Game at Forest
Friday, 5th May 2017 13:40

Town's 11-goal top scorer Tom Lawrence will miss Sunday’s final game of the season at Nottingham Forest and David McGoldrick is a doubt for the match which could relegated his hometown club from whom he joined the Blues.

“Tom hurt his ankle again and he’s going to miss out,” manager Mick McCarthy confirmed. “If it was a cup final, he’s going to be playing in it. But it’s not the cup final.

“I’m not doing anything to weaken the team, he doesn’t want to be injured in the last game of the season.

“He’s missed quite a bit of football and he’s had a lot of injections in that and to be fair to him, he wants to be ready for his next challenge, not end up with ankle ligament damage and be off for the summer and not know what is happening. He’s got a sore ankle, he’s missing.”

Lawrence, who has spent the season on loan from Leicester, has almost certainly now played his last game for the Blues.

Regarding McGoldrick, McCarthy added: “Didzy’s got a really bad neck, he’s not trained all week, he’s looking like he’s slept in a draught for the last couple of weeks, he’s got a really sore neck.

“When you speak to him he turns around very slowly. He’s a doubt for Sunday. Kevin Bru is [as well]. Tom’s not playing but Didz is still a worry.”

McCarthy has a number of other players missing into Sunday’s match: “I’ve an injury list here - Steven Taylor [hamstring], Jonas Knudsen [shoulder], Tommy Smith [sore calf], Teddy Bishop [hamstring], David McGoldrick, Giles Coke [knee], Kevin Bru, Luke Hyam [ankle], Jonny Williams [hamstring], Tom Lawrence and Toumani Diagouraga [groin].

“There are a few, Didzy’s still a question mark but if he’s not right, then likewise, if it’s an FA Cup final he’d be saying ‘Gaffer, wait for me, wait for me’, but he’s not trained today so he’s a doubt.”

Central defender Adam Webster is back in training after his ankle injury but is unlikely to be involved at the City Ground.

Just hope we don't bore the watching public to death. Big injury list. Keep signing players who are constantly injured and that is what happens. Not rocket science. Wonder how much Williams has cost us this season. Probably more than the increase for 60-65 year olds that resulted in so many long term ST holders giving up.

FFS another bloody inept performance on the cards from us. Forest will turn us over now. .....And what's wrong either "sick note", this time???

I thought he'd moved onto talking about Douglas at the start of that sentence, then realised it was still about Didzy's neck...

Would just have Rowe in from the start in place of Lawrence, personally.

If didzy isn't fit I hope Pits doesn't start. All round game offers little.
I hope sears plays with Samuel with bishop in behind them.

It's been asked before - how many injuries in training ?

As to the match
Lets hope we make a go of it. Couldn't stand another cr*p TV performance. Whatever happens we'll be treated to the pundits making comparisons between Forest and Town as we are now, scrapping it out in the basement of Div 2, compared with the sides that did us proud in Europe and at home during the Clough and Robson era.

Play for the shirt boys. Play to win and don't let us down.

I am sure Didz wants no part of sending his former and hometown club down to League One.

Wonder how many are "diplomatic" injuries designed to give McCarthy the opportuninty to play Scuse, Douglas and his "proper blokes" foe one last hurrah before they all depart McCarthy included.

A FAir few on that injury list are long term. Hardly a surprise. We should still have a good enough squad to beat Forest, so no excuses.

I haven't been convinced about David McGoldrick for a long time, certainly not as a striker but he ought to be able to do a decent job from the middle of the pitch, if only he wasn't so greedy and brought other players into the game.
Disappointed that Lawrence won't play but can't blame him or McCarthy for that one. If he is carrying an injury it would be daft to risk his being injured at the start of next season - good luck to him - the only real bright spark for Town but he needs to work on collecting stupid bookings.
I would like to see the likes of Rowe get an opportunity and tell him to run at Forest with the ball every chance he gets but I am expecting a ScuGlas pairing for one last outing and a rubbish performance for the TV cameras ala Lincoln City.

Bit sad but the last game doesn't matter for us. Both these players give the team some attack and flair. Tom Lawrence I want to say thanks for keeping our club up.
