Town Confirm Retained List
Thursday, 18th May 2017 13:10

Town have announced their retained list confirming which players will be leaving Portman Road this summer.

The Blues revealed last week that they have decided not to take up the option on Christophe Berra’s contract, which will allow the 32-year-old central defender to return to Scotland. He is expected to rejoin his hometown club Hearts but Rangers have also been linked.

Also leaving are Paul Digby, who joined Mansfield on Tuesday, Jonathan Douglas, Giles Coke, Leon Best, Jacob Marsden and Joe Robinson, all previously announced departures.

As reported last week, TWTD understands that midfielder Kevin Bru and striker Brett Pitman, who both have a year left on their Town contracts, have been told they can find other clubs over the summer.

Manager Mick McCarthy has also previously indicated that he wants to keep Jordan Spence and Steven Taylor, who signed short-term contracts to the end of the season. Spence is set to be offered a new deal, while Taylor has been offered the chance to return for pre-season training, prove his fitness and win a further contract.

As per previous reports, new terms have been offered to midfielder Kundai Benyu and keeper Harry Wright, while the Blues have taken up one-year options to keep young professionals Michael Crowe, Monty Patterson, Shane McLoughlin, James Blanchfield, Chris Smith and George Fowler.

Regarding the second-year academy scholars, defender Luke Woolfenden and midfielders Conor McKendry and Flynn Downes will also staying at Playford Road for another season.

Andre Dozzell, Nick Hayes and Ben Morris previously signed two-year professional contracts with the club when they turned 17 with Dozzell extending his to the summer of 2020 on his 18th birthday earlier this month.

Striker Callum Fullwood will have his scholarship extended into next season having spent time out injured.

Moving on are full-back Kieron Cathline, winger Ross Meldrum and defender Kolade Salaudeen, all 18.

Meanwhile, Brighton boss Chris Hughton says it’s his intention to send midfielders Rohan Ince, linked with the Blues and a number of other Championship clubs earlier in the week, and Richie Towell, another player Town are believed to have shown interest in, out on loan next season.

“Players like Rohan and Richie will go out on loan,” Hughton said. “We have been really delighted with Richie but we are very keen for him to get out on loan to the Championship next season.”

Elsewhere, it’s reported that ex-Town striker Darren Bent, 33, is set to leave Derby County this summer, despite having a year left on his contract.

Now can we please show Mick the door!?

See Brighton are looking to loan out Ince too, which makes it even MORE mouth watering for Mick et al...

The chances of Mick 'doing one' deminish by the day. Are we really going to have to put up with another season of same old but probably worse? Although if we get worse we go down, simple as that.

Is it just me that looked at that picture of an empty stand with the headline and thought it was going to be regarding season tickets?

Get used to that empty stand look hoppy !

Cos if McCarthy stays and Evans adopts the same policy that's the way it will look all season I'm afraid to say

I wish Skuse had been given the same invitation as Bru and Pits! Skuse actually looked good against Forest for the first 10 or 15 minutes, he even pinged a couple of nice passes which actually went forwards. And there I was thinking he looked like a Suffolk Pirlo (even if it was just for a 10 or 15 mins). However, once I stopped pinching myself for the first 15 minutes, after that he may as well have gone for an early shower as barely saw him touch the ball for the rest of the match. That's the problem with Skuse. He goes missing a lot and he doesn't really get a match by the scruff of the net. His contributions while often tidy enough are not telling enough to have a major affect on the game. A player in his position has got to want it more, he doesn't look like he has the hunger and drive to get the midfield firing on all cylinders.

& I meant scruff of the neck not net. Net and Skuse are not two words that go very well together as we know! In fact his goal to season ratio for us currently requires a 0. something decimal place, say no more!

Would take Darren Bent back in a heart beat, goalscorer until the day he hangs up his boots, just look a Defoe, 35 next month and will be scoring goals in the prem for 2 more seasons. Wages only concern.

One year alongside Dazza would be the making of Freddie Sears. The whole front line would have to raise their game to just exist in his space.

FYI no i do not consider McGoldrick a striker, but bent would love to pick up his little slide passes.

Let's get Magilton to lace his boots up again and we will have some passion and flair in midfield.

We have had no one of their calibre perform on sustained basis since the early 2000s. Who could have imagined that at the time.

Bit like the Party Manifesto's,where all the details have previously been let out piece meal.

Like JAS has said there has certainly been a big clear out.Cant say I disagree with any of those not being retained.

But regarding Brett Pitman and Kevin Bru,think both would probably do better under a new Manager who played' pass and move' footy.Regarding Pits, think he is one who is more than likely to speak his mind;which as we know doesn't go down well with Mick.Think Kundai Benyu could also be in the same category,as he was publicly admonished by our Dictator, and had to apologise before he was allowed back into the fold.

Now MM has cleared the decks, lets get rid so a new manager can bring in his players.

I can but dream;although surely Marcus must realise that whoever he brought in would boost the sagging season ticket sales!

Well Mr Evans Huddersfield finished 19th last season !!! This season changed there manager did not spend a lot of money and now they are in the PLAY OFF FINAL !! just one game from a Bonus of 100 million plus pounds Hope that makes you think Mr Evans that Dino has had enough time ????

No surprises just wished that Skuse was released too. We don't need another slow defensive player, just imagine how our team would change if we signed someone like Wood of Brentford!
While on the subject of strikers, I'd prefer Murphy to Bent.
