Colchester Friendly Date Set
Friday, 19th May 2017 12:18

Town have confirmed that the annual friendly against Colchester United at the Weston Homes Community Stadium will take place on Tuesday 25th July (KO 7.30pm).

Last summer striker Brett Pitman netted the goal as the Blues beat the League Two U’s 1-0.

The game is the fourth friendly to be confirmed with Town facing Irish side Drogheda United at United Park on Saturday 8th July, Peterborough in a double header at London Road on Tuesday 18th July and Charlton at the Valley on Saturday 29th July.

Manager Mick McCarthy has previously said the Blues will also be playing a fixture at Southend with the date yet to be confirmed.

A list of the Blues’ so-far confirmed pre-season fixtures can be found here.

Well as it has been so successful why would we need to change it , league position dropping 2 seasons in a row , crowds dropping ,best players being sold every season, lets keep doing exactly the same things and hope something changes

Bring back the good days when we had Lazio to look forward to

Friendly my **se ! I live in Colchester, and the Barsiders have a real chip on their shoulders about us nicking all their fans ( well, both of them) costing them promotion to the 3rd Division South in 1930 something and nicking George Burley. And Freeddie Sears. And it's all our fault they're in the fourth division.
They beat Leeds once - nothing since.
Bless.

I've got a better idea. Kill the half-time on pitch 'entertainment', which is laughable and spend the money on a decent pre-season on the continent somewhere. Give the fans something to enjoy and start repairing the damage done last season by Mick's mouth. Kick-off the season with some optimism not these short local trips where the hope is that fans will attend as they're in close proximity and ticket sales may get a boost.

If the entertainment was good enough on the pitch, there'd be no need for half-time nonsense. Is everything at Town back to front these days!?

Can't understand all the moaning about who we are playing in the pre-season friendlies these game are about getting players match fit so does it really matter who we play, if we went of the far east people would people still moan because we haven't got a friendly against Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Ummm, I'm gonna stick my neck out here, and forecast for the following season that we'll be going to...

Carlton House, Ireland
Playing Colchester United
Playing Braintree
And some indifferent team, as the 'last' game of pre-season.

There's nothing like change (that's sarcasm)

Ground hog day............FFS get serious about all matches and do something different.

MM -“If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.”

FFS break the cycle and boot out those that are bringing my favourite club down!

Just like the manager, owner and MD; these pre season fixtures seem stale and very uninspiring. Just like the football club as a whole.

Typical Ipswich Pre-season.
Release a few out of contract players , sell one (Bart )
All report back from their holls, a little running about for the TV cameras.
Off for a little jolly to Ireland to play a couple of friendlies, bring back the next George Best who we will never see or hear of again. Arrange a few more friendlies with local teams Colchester / Cambridge etc not to far away and not much of a challenge, lose them !! Suddenly realise the squad is not good enough rush around seeing whats left over in the freebies dept that nobody else wants and sign a couple of premier league reserves on loan and hope they come good, IF ALL ELSE FAILS bring back Johnny Williams
to keep the physio's busy zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Posted this a while ago !!! All looking very boring and predictable just like the football served up by MM The club is Stagnent !! Needs massive changes Mr Evans !!!!!!!!

Bluesatin -

Totally disagree - we have had the same pre-season
for at least the last 4 years.

What we had to endure last season was nothing
short of diabolical-

It really sums up what McCarthy thinks about
our club which is I know best - so sod the rest of you.

He believes that he has a stay of execution -

He believes that he can turn it around -

He believes that he has the backing of the supporters
of this Club -

Yet he stubbornly continues to not listen.

With him still in charge - expect more of the
same and a continued toxic atmosphere
around Portman Road.

McCarthy OUT of ITFC

No issue at all with the friendlies organised so far, in particular a very smart idea from both clubs with the Peterborough double header to get a lot of players involved.

We could however do with a good test at home vs a premier league side.

As for the comment about Lazio, they still owe us a friendly that will never happen.

One summer we hosted Rangers and Atletico I remember that, what other decent European opposition have we had the past 15 years? We did travel to PSV also come to think of it.

Not a chance I've done it the past couple of years and what a waste of time plus too expensive and parking is a right pain. They've got my season ticket money that will have to do this year. I just hope McCarthy has listened to what Russell Osman has been saying about the difference in football at the academy and the 1st team
