Benyu Looks Set to Leave Blues
Monday, 26th Jun 2017 16:38

Young midfielder Kundai Benyu looks set to leave the Blues this summer with manager Mick McCarthy revealing that there are currently no ongoing contract talks with the 19-year-old.

Benyu impressed while on loan at Aldershot last season and Town were keen to take up an option for a further year on his contract, which is due to end on June 30th, and offer him extended terms. However, no agreement has been reached.

“He is [out of contract],” McCarthy said when quizzed on Benyu’s situation. “He’s free to do, well, he’s not free, but if he goes somewhere there’ll be [youth] compensation.”

Asked whether talks are still ongoing, the Blues boss added: “Well, he’s not here today, so no.”

Earlier in the summer, Benyu was reported to be interesting Tottenham, West Ham, Aston Villa and Celtic, although it would be a surprise if the Camden-born youngster were to make a move to clubs of their stature.

A bit odd. We sent him to Aldershot on loan and he impressed there, so what more could he do? The lad is only 19 so disappointing if he leaves.

Hmmm...

MM doesn't seem too happy with him does he?

I hope people won't use this as a stick to beat him with before most of them have seen him play.

I haven't, and have heard very good things about him, albeit at a very poor level.

His has an obvious attitude problem (confirmed by the club and player) and I imagine talks have stalled from his end.

Move on, I would think.

This is what I and many other Town fans cannot stand with Mick in charge. He clearly doesn't like the lad. We have a player who looks to have alot of potential! Give him a fair enough contract and not £20 a week!!!

So his good enough for spurs and West Ham to be interested, but not good enough for a team struggling near the bottom. Can see this coming to bite us on the bum.

That's a great shame, I was hoping he would a have a breakthrough season this time around. Got a bad feeling he's a name we'll see popping up in the future and we'll think another one that slipped through the net.

Shame, I am a Kundai fan. His record of past clubs may come back to haunt him one day if he seems to be unappreciative. Fingers crossed.

Sounds to me like MM doesnt get on with him and has attitude problems as noted last year before the loan spell. Although a good prospect, its probably best to let him go.

FFS this lad needs a chance with US.

The key point in this for me is that we did offer terms. And you can see quite clearly i think that micks a bit peeved that nothing has been agreed. We should get a decent amount of compensation - I know it doesn't replace the talent if he goes and makes it big, but if he doesn't want to be here and sign a deal, then so be it. Probably behind bishop and dozzell in the pecking order too...

He admitted his attitude was bad, which surely is a sign of maturity kicking in.

Perhaps the reality is he does not believe MM has a way of playing he could fit into. It must be a possibility as the 1st team is the only team throughout the age groups at ITFC that plays hoofball. Talk to some of the juniors and rest assured they hope things will change by the time they are of age, and get a chance in a team that actually plays football.

Sounds like MM did not know whether Benyu would turn up today ot not. If that is the case, Benyu is not making it easy for himself in finding a new club by being arrogant to hos old one. He's only been at Aldershot si far, and I'm surprised og any PL-clubs Wold take hin in based om that alone.

It sounds like Benyu (or his agent) is keeping his options open , he has the option to sign another year but if he decides to go then nothing MM or ITFC can do about it, other than ask for a bit of compensation. Shame really as it seems he is a decent prospect.

I have it from someone who knows him, He doesn't want to be at Ipswich. Most likely destination in Spurs, so I was told a few weeks ago.

Let's not forget that when Ipswich didn't offer terms to Sam Ford in early 2016 and he went to West Ham there were similar comments then along the lines of 'I just don't think we know a good player when we see one' & 'Good enough for West Ham but not MM says it all probably showing a bit of flair.'
Fast forward to now and having spent a brief time on loan at Bishops Stortford, West Ham have released him.

I noticed on the vid of his free kick goal for the Shots that his team mates, older pros admittedly, didn't rush over to congratulate him. Maybe he didn't follow what was rehearsed in training and it paid off and they were annoyed or maybe he's just not a team player.

If he doesn't want to be here, then jog on. Spurs beckon ? Reserves maybe. Or out on loan....

Will be a real shame if he leaves without him making an appearance. Had really high hopes for him

Think someone (player, agent, both) fancies the big time
Might disappear at a big club. Has Rav Morrison situation written on it to me

Shame since he was looking really good at Aldershot and one for the future - is he one of the players to shift out the squad (unlikely)?

So - he's been offered a contract having been away on loan, hasn't accepted it or reported back for training. On day it's revealed that the club are on the verge of signing a proven international midfielder there are some on here who feel it appropriate to slag off the manager! This forum never ceases to amaze!

Well I saw him at Aldershot v Tranmere playoff s/f 1st leg. Lost 0-3 and Benyu was carried off early second half after going in hard to win the ball. He looked to have a good rapport with the Shots forwards and looked a talent. Will be very disappointing if he leaves so young. Their fans rate him highly.

It never struck me reading these comments Pragmatic Blue that many are slagging off MM.In fact not one outright criticism of the Huws potential signing.

I seem to recall that you are a bit touchy on this subject.

Also note that you have 'slagged off' this forum on many occasions just because people don't agree with your take!

When I was 19 I had an "attitude problem" in that I was bone idle. I am now a solicitor and a successful professional man. Look at the talent and try to harness it! It may be a simple case that, like me, he needs a good hard kick up the backside. The art of management is not how you deal with the easy ones, but the talented difficult ones.

Attitude problem, wasn't good enough to get in the squad, went out and played non league football and did Ok, now various half decent teams apparently want him according to the papers. Not sure why McCarthy is getting it in the neck from some on here. He's hardly the top draw midfielder MM needs to bring in for the season. Let him go and play out his career in League two.

Seems a crazy decision to let him go. He's got stacks of potential. It's alright saying he has a bad attitude but he's 19 years old and still growing up as a person. Surely another season out on loan will do him the world of good. You don't get linked with academies like Spurs and West Ham if you don't have a lot of potential.
