Dozzell Unused Sub as England U20s Win
Thursday, 11th Oct 2018 23:26

Blues midfielder Andre Dozzell was an unused sub as England’s U20s beat Italy 2-1 at AFC Fylde’s Mill Farm this evening.

Arsenal’s Edward Nketiah opened the scoring, then fellow Gunner Joe Willock added the second from the penalty spot prior to the break before Davide Frattesi pulled one back for the Azzurri midway through the second half.

Dozzell, who is yet to be capped at U20 level, had been drafted into the squad as a late replacement for Blues loanee Trevoh Chalobah, who dropped out due to a minor knock suffered in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Swansea.

Along with Town team-mate Flynn Downes, Dozzell had initially been with the squad just to train.

The England youngsters face the Czech Republic in another Elite League game on Monday in Budejovice.

Blues U18s assistant manager Kieron Dyer is part of head coach Paul Simpson’s staff for the current get-together and the next few training camps.

Elsewhere, academy midfielder Idris El Mizouni came on as a second-half sub as Tunisia’s Olympics team - an U23s squad - beat domestic side Club Africain 1-0 in a friendly yesterday, winning what proved to be the decisive penalty.

The game was played during their training camp ahead of a friendly against Italy in Vicenza on Monday.

El Mizouni, who has made an impressive start to the season having broken into Town's U23s on the strength of his early displays for the U18s, is with a Tunisia squad for the first time. The France-born 18-year-old qualifies via his father.

Good that Dozzell was part of the squad, but an unused sub, talking as an Ipswich Town supporter. We need him coming back and being an important part of our 1st team squad.
