Blues left-back Jonas Knudsen has confirmed there was “concrete” interest in him from Middlesbrough and Stoke in the summer and says he is still to receive the offer of a new deal from Town with his current terms up at the end of the season.

The Potters were reported to have made a £1 million offer for the 26-year-old, while Boro were also said to be interested.

“There was something concrete in it, but sometimes things are not going to fall into place as you would like,” Sport Witness quotes Knudsen, who won his sixth Denmark cap in last night’s 0-0 draw with the Republic of Ireland in Aarhus, as having told Danish newspaper Tipsbladet.

“That’s the way it is. This summer I had a year left, and now I have half a year left, it’s a new situation in January. We will see.

“I have made sure to play and concentrate on it. Sometimes you want to try something new and you will be disappointed, but you cannot resist it. You have to focus on the next game and that’s really what I’m doing right now because I’m happy at Ipswich.”

Regarding his situation with Town, he added: “I’m out [of contract] in the summer and I have not heard anything from the club or the owner.

“I will also look at my own situation and, for January, the window will open again, when I can also talk freely with other clubs. Then we have to take it from there.”

“I have to look after myself. I’ve played over 160 matches lately and have not heard anything, so that’s how it is.

“I’m very open. I have always said that I like England, but I do not exclude other possibilities. If anything comes from other countries, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, I’m open to it.

“I’ve had a great deal in England over the past three and a half years, and if something comes from outside, I’m ready for it.”

However, Knudsen, who joined the Blues from his local side Esbjerg fB in 2015, isn’t ruling out staying with Town: “But I’m very open and if Ipswich want to talk, then we have to take it from there.

“But they should start the dialogue. And it’s clear that I have to look at what opportunities I have because I will also continue to be part of this national team.”

I don't think Jonas has much ability on the ball, if I'm honest. He's also out of position more times than in it. Plus, if you're going to suggest your open to talking to other clubs in January, doesn't exactly show much fighting spirit to stay and help get us out of this mess......

Guthrum added 11:51 - Nov 20 Nothing wrong with his attitude. Danes (in my experience) tend to be rather more open and direct in speaking about things than the British. Whereas we tend to hide our thoughts with polite language. After all, nothing he has said is actually incorrect.

For me, he struggles with the basics when it comes to defending and too often gets caught out of position....look at the Reading equalizer as a prime example. I can't believe we rejected £1m for him....bring back Woolfenden from Portsmouth and give Kenlock a run in the side.

He's a very good man& character & I believe should stay , unless we've , in Paul Lambert's judgement ,ready made replacements .Doesnt currently look to me as if we are 'overloaded ' in that area . This season hasn't been good for anyone to be honest, but if he played in a good squad, he would prove to be a very good player. Like Skuse, the managers see something in these players who are always in the XI! Sign him up!

rugbytomc added 12:41 - Nov 20 Financially - we should not have let his contract run down as we paid £300k for him and surely we could have made that back in the summer. On the football side - is he better than Kenlock? probably. Is he a better left back than we have right back? Definitely. I think unless a decent offer comes in then keep him till the end of the season when losing him wouldn't be such a blow. Not sure he has it in him to improve. He's also probably harshly judged in comparison to his 2 predecessors, Cresswell and Mings! (can we get Mings back?)

itfc58 added 12:46 - Nov 20 Give him a new contract, in my opinion he deserves it! Paul Hurst didn't treat him well was pretty much on his case before he even joined up with the squad after the world cup. I'm confident that Paul Lambert will bring out the best of him.

Europablue added 12:56 - Nov 20 There are a lot of variables here including a new manager, and a team who might be relegated. It might not be the best move to offer him a contract when we don't know which league we will be in. Just remember loyalty goes both ways, if he hasn't been offered a new contract, why should he show loyalty to our club. There is nothing wrong with looking at your options, and he is open to staying. Some people need to remember that these guys are people who are working in a short career that they have to make the most out of financially and in terms of reaching their potential.

hucks216 added 13:00 - Nov 20 Considering that come January we will either still be in the relegation zone or hovering just above it we will not be in a position to offer him the wages he will seek as we could still end up in League 1. And we might not be in a position to sell him as he will probably get a bigger signing on fee if he signs for a club at the end of his contract so he might be willing to let his contract run down and there is nothing we can do about it.

Can understand his anxiety given being a parent and wanting to secure his future but wonder if his agent is the same as those who departed in the summer after the big bucks we paid our goalkeeper. Should imagine that Lambert has already got something in mind regarding future line-ups and we might see some further movement in January. One thing for sure is that he has International and Championship experience, something we are woefully short of in the current squad. 50/50 or Phone a friend?

If he wanted to go that's fair enough. But to say comments such as this I don't find acceptable, but Jonas the positive for us is.. you are certainly replaceable. Don't think he offers enough going forward or defending. Losing you in January wouldn't concern me at all if I am honest.

Still very much a 'work in progress' - just like a new contract being offered. Room for much improvement still - so get your head down and work at it. In doing so, a contract would look after itself.

blueboy1981 added 14:05 - Nov 20 Yes, he's a member of our squad - BUT, over the past few seasons he has never missed an opportunity to remind us that he is an 'International' and other clubs are constantly interested in him. Instead of keep bleating about contracts, surely his interest should be to impress with his play - he is prone to lapses of concentration, and mistakes, improve his allround game and a contract would be the last of his concerns. Becoming an 'International' doesn't always mean you're doing the business at Club level - as I feel the case can be here.
