Blues forward Jordan Roberts, who is currently on loan with League Two leaders Lincoln, has been given six points on his driving licence and fined having been caught speeding at 63mph in a 30mph stretch of West End Road close to Portman Road.

Roberts admitted the offence in writing but attended magistrates court today where he read from a prepared statement.

“I believed it to be an area in the national speed limit,” the 25-year-old told the court regarding the incident which took place while he was driving a Mercedes at 11.26pm on October 12th last year.

“I acknowledge that’s not an excuse, but it offers an explanation for why I committed the offence.

“My job puts me in the public eye and in a position of influence. I’m disappointed with myself, and have brought the club into disrepute and set a bad example to the fans.”

In addition to the six points on what was a previously clean licence, Roberts, who joined the Blues on a free transfer after leaving Crawley in the summer, was fined £666 was ordered to pay £100 in costs and £66 towards victim services.
