Mark Venus will miss the beginning of the season due to a pulled calf muscle. Last year's Player of the Year has so far played no part in Town's pre-season games, first due to a knee problem and now his calf injury.

Venus said: "It's better to miss two games and play 40 than play two and miss ten.

"It's very frustrating. I missed the last pre-season due to thigh and rib trouble. I may get in some pre-season action this time the towards the end of the build-up. But it's looking decidedly dodgy for the first two games of the season."

Venus is not even with the squad in Bristol, and was watching Town's reserves as they beat Peterborough on Wednesday afternoon. The defender is cycling and swimming in a bid to get himself fit for the start of Town's promotion campaign.

Chris Makin, Marcus Bent, and Jermaine Wright will all be missing from tomorrow's side facing Bristol City. Makin has a slight hamstring problem while Marcus Bent has a groin injury. Both sat out training alongisde Wright who is not over the thigh problem which saw him miss the win against Bristol Rovers.

Thomas Gaardsøe is also likely to miss the game due to his groin injury.
