Finidi Better Prepared

Town's Nigerian winger Finidi George has admitted that Town supporters are yet to see the best of him and says that missing pre-season last year had a lot to do with his disappointing 2001/02.

The former Nigerian international said afer returning to action at Bristol City on Saturday: "Personally I had a good run for a while but what really affected me was the fact that I did not have a good pre-season. That affected me and I suffered for that.

"But now I have been involved fully this season, even with the injury I have trained and now I have played.

"So Ipswich fans will see a different Finidi George. I know what it takes to do well here and I will get myself very prepared for the season."

While there have been rumours of interest in him from Spain, no serious offers have come for the Port Harcourt-born player.

After a fine start in his home debut against Derby County, Finidi had a less than impressive time of it last season and suffered a broken cheek at Fulham.

On his return he enjoyed his best spell of the season around Christmas, before joining-up with Nigeria for the African Nations' Cup in Mali.

After his national side went out in the semi-finals he failed to return to form with the Blues and was omitted from Nigeria's World Cup squad.

Without him Nigeria went out in the early stages and afterwards the former Ajax man decided to honour a vow to retire from international football which he had made prior to joining Town.

It will be interesting to see how a player who has shone in a World Cup and has won a European Cup Winners' medal will do in the First Division.
