Seven Arrests as Fans Clash at Peterborough Station
Sunday, 18th Aug 2019 20:08

Police were called to what they describe as “a large disturbance” involving supporters of Newcastle, Norwich and Town at Peterborough railway station following Saturday’s matches and made seven arrests.

Blues fans were set to travel back following the 2-2 draw with Posh at London Road, while the Canaries and Magpies had met at Carrow Road.

According to TWTD Forum posters, police employed pepper spray in the incident which appeared to be triggered when a train from Norwich stopped at Peterborough while Town fans were waiting for their return service to leave. An emergency cord was subsequently pulled on the Ipswich-bound train which was eventually cancelled.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Peterborough station at 7.50pm on Saturday following reports of a large disturbance between football fans.

“Officers quickly attended alongside colleagues from Cambridgeshire Police and seven men were arrested on suspicion of breaching the peace.

“Inquiries are currently ongoing and anyone with information can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 573 of 17/08/19."
