Town are trying to get Darren Ambrose released from England U19s duty so he can play for Town on Thursday. As we reported last week Ambrose faces missing a number of games while away with England while Darren Bent is on stand-by.

Ambrose is set to join up with Stuart Baxter's England squad today but Town manager Joe Royle is hoping that he will return for the UEFA Cup match with Slovan Liberec tomorrow night: "We are hoping to hear good news before the Liberec game but as it stands at the moment they will be staying with England.

"I have spoken with the coach Stuart Baxter and I know Mr Sheepshanks has had talks at executive level.

"With Darren Ambrose playing regularly for Ipswich this season we are hoping they will look upon this favourably. No doubt Everton will be looking to do the same with Wayne Rooney."

Ambrose is also set to miss the games with Crystal Palace on Sunday and the Worthington Cup match with Middlesbrough next Wednesday.
