It seems Town's bid of £1 plus for Swedish international defender Andreas Jakobsson is being taken seriously both by his current club, Helsingborg and the player himself.

Jakobsson, seen as a replacement for Tony Mowbray, has in the past been linked with Italians Napoli and Danes Bröndby and some Swedish commentators (including TWTD Message Board regulars) see this offer from Town as possibly his last chance to play football in one of the major European leagues.

However, with Helsingborg in Europe Andreas may feel he wishes to stay with them a bit longer. Further complicating things is the recent injury to Kenneth Storvik, seen as Helsingborg's other star player.

He broke a leg in training just days after turning down a big money move to Rosenborg in Norway and is likely to be out for the whole season, by the end of which he will be available on a Bosman. Helsingborg may feel they should try an get some cash for at least one of their prize assets.

Meanwhile Town's second Swedish target Jonas Axeldal has joined the ITFC squad and is to play on Saturday against FC Twente (2pm).

Town's reserves gained a creditable 2-2 draw with the Arsenal second string last night. A rather marvellous Chris Keeble goal was followed later by a second from Dutch trialist Romeo Wouden.

Other trialists James Kryger, the Canadian goalkeeper from the incredibly named Wheeling Jesuit University, and Jonas Axeldal also featured.

Town team: Kryger, Kennedy, Holster, Niven, Mowbray, (Wouden 60), Brown, Keeble (Inglis 60), Axeldal, Logan, Midgley and Friars
