Ipswich MP Chris Mole says he will help the club set-up a deal with the Inland Revenue which could mean that small creditors receive a greater share of what they are owed. TWTD reported last week that the club were keen to take advantage of the new Enterprise Act which comes into force in April.

The new law means that the Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise are no longer treated as preferential creditors but as unsecured creditors alongside many small businesses.

Mole said: "I shall try to persuade the Inland Revenue to hold off from making their claim until the Enterprise Bill comes into force. That would enable local businesses to expect a far greater share of what is owed to them."

Town chairman David Sheepshanks has already made it known that he is equally keen to do a deal with the Revenue.

Leicester City have already come to an arrangement of this type which has angered some in football. There are already calls for sides who take themselves into administration and therefore pay only a percentage of debts to be hit with a points deduction, although this seems unlikely at this stage.

It has also emerged that Ipswich Borough Council, a creditor of the club, have stopped work on the improvements to Sir Alf Ramsey Way while the immediate future of the club is unclear.
