It is being reported that Town legend John Wark is set to leave the club and join fellow First Division side Portsmouth as chief scout.

It has long been known that Warky was unhappy at Portman Road after being overlooked for the position of chief scout here at the beginning of last season, a position that went to Colin Suggett.

This marks the end of Wark's third spell at the club which began in 1991. Veteran of nearly 700 appearances John will be sorely missed by Town and one wonders why such a legend should be allowed to leave the club so easily.

With Lee Bracey leaving Terry Baxter's side and off to Radio Humberside Town are in need of both a new second string keeper and a regular radio summariser.

For the keeping role Town seem keen on Charlton's 34-year-old custodian Mike Salmon, recently released by the justly-relegated club.

George Burley is quoted as saying: "Mike has been released by Charlton and I am planning to have a chat with him."

Other possibilities include ex-Town loanees Andy Petterson and Aidan Davison, along with Danny Coyne from Tranmere. However, given Bracey's experience of the last two years as a non-playing reserve, it seems unlikely that'keepers who feel their careers are on the way up will want to join Town.

As for the radio job, Radio Suffolk were asking for listeners to ring in with suggestions of Town players past and present who could fill Lee's coat amply. We suggest Bontcho.

Still nothing on the Kieron Dyer transfer front, although he is definitely back off holiday, having been spotted in town yesterday afternoon with his mates, along with Titus Bramble, Richard Logan and Carl Wright. He was also singing to himself.
