Burley Refutes Newspaper Claims
Burley Refutes Newspaper Claims
Friday, 4th Aug 2000 12:28

An angry George Burley has refuted newspaper claims this morning that Richard Wright's contract is worth £18,000 a week. The Town manager is distinctly unimpressed at the way money is being made an issue in this way. The story suggested that after endorsements, sponsorship etc Wright would be earning £1 million a year. This was not confirmed by his agent, Jonathan Barnett, who merely said that Wright would be "well rewarded".

Elsewhere Matt Holland is set to miss tomorrow's game with Alkmaar (KO 3pm). The Town skipper has an ankle strain. Richard Naylor is still recovering from his operation while Mark Venus has a sore back after the Orient match on Wednesday. Other than that everyone else seems fit and raring to go.

Town's matchday magazine (ie the programme) will be available from newsagents around Town this season.

It is being reported that former Town Gus Uhlenbeek has joined Sheffield United. Town's most cack-footed ex-wing-back was released by Fulham at the end of last season and was recently on trial at Hibernian.

Ian Marshall is to have a trial at QPR leading to the interesting prospect of a Kiwomya/Marshall strike partnership as seen at Town (when Marshall wasn't injured) from 93 to 96.
