French Interest in Sereni
French Interest in Sereni

An unnamed French club are the latest to show an interest in on loan keeper Matteo Sereni. The Italian played his last match of the season with loan club Brescia on Saturday, the home game with Modena ending in a 2-2 draw.

Last week TWTD reported that newly-promoted Sampdoria were after their former keeper and they appear to be the frontrunners for his signature.

Town are keen to get a fee for their record £4.8 million signing but may be forced to let him go out on loan for another season if a satisfactory deal cannot be arranged this summer.

The Parma-born stopper has had an impressive time this season and kept 13 clean sheets in his 23 games. He missed the first couple of months of 2002/03 with a hip injury sustained in a car crash.

Town chairman David Sheepshanks recently told TWTD that a number of Italian clubs had enquired about Sereni aside from Brescia. The Rondinelle, who finished ninth in Serie A, want to sign him permently but may not have the cash to do so.

While Sereni has been valued at £5.5 million by some newspapers in Italy, a return of anything approaching half that would be more than acceptable to the club, keen to rid themselves of Sereni's £22,000-a-week wages.
