Burley in for Ambrose?
Burley in for Ambrose?
Wednesday, 28th May 2003 12:48

Reports this afternoon say former Town boss George Burley will seek to take departed Blue Darren Ambrose to Pride Park on loan next season if and when he is appointed the Rams' new boss.

Burley gave Ambrose, who left Portman Road for Newcastle in a £1 million deal in March, his Town debut at Arsenal late in 2001/02 and rates the youngster very highly. The midfielder is not likely to feature too often for the Magpies next season and a long-term loan move may well be on the cards.

Towards the end of 2002/03 promising Newcastle striker Michael Chopra was allowed to move to Watford on loan in order to gain experience. It would not be surprising if Ambrose did much the same next year.

Burley is also reported to be interested in another Newcastle player, 22-year-old Scottish defender Steve Caldwell.
