Holland on Fee
Holland on Fee

Former Town skipper Matt Holland says he thinks that the £750,000 paid for him by Charlton was a good deal for Town in the current financial climate.

Holland was back at Portman Road on Wednesday to say goodbye to his former team-mates and wish new skipper Jim Magilton well.

The Ireland international says he can understand criticisms of the deal which took him to the Valley but feels that at present £750,000 isn't too bad a fee: “From the club's point of view it was the best deal they could have got.

“Ipswich have had six years' service and are getting their money back so that can't be bad.

“I can understand people saying the fee was too low, especially after £4m was offered last year. But I was the one who turned that move down and since then the transfer market has collapsed."
