Town have turned down a second bid for Danish defender Thomas Gaardsøe from West Bromwich Albion, although there is an expectation the Baggies could come back with a third.

New keeper Kelvin Davis says he sees joining Town as his chance of playing in the Premiership. Davis signed a three-year deal yesterday afternoon having completed a medical.

The former England U21 stopper says that he feels Town are a club playing a division below where they should be and he wants to help take them up: "I have done my apprenticeship at Luton and then Wimbledon, now I want to play in the Premier League. Every player wants to be in the Premiership and the Champions' League and I am no different."

Davis is well-known to keeper-coach Malcolm Webster, the pair having worked together at Luton, while he is also friends with both Andy Marshall and Richard Wright.

He says that there will be no problem between him and Marshall despite the former Norwich man being frozen out at Portman Road and Davis effectively replacing him: "Andy is a top goalkeeper with a great reputation in the game. We are close friends and I know there will be no hard feelings between us. The manager makes the decision about who plays and I know I have a job to do and will do it the best I can."

Davis will make his Portman Road bow on Friday when the Blues meet Levski Sofia in a friendly but may be in the squad which travels to Boston on Wednesday.
