Town manager Joe Royle has revealed that Sheffield United have made an enquiry regarding taking unwanted keeper Andy Marshall to Bramall Lane on a permanent basis. Marshall was offered a free transfer at the end of last season.

Royle said: “We've had preliminary interest from Sheffield United in Andy Marshall, but no further contact so I don't know whether anything is going to happen.”

With the Nationwide League not subject to the transfer window, which is up on Sunday, deals can take place throughout the season involving clubs in Divisions One, Two and Three.

Neil Warnock is in dire need of another keeper with outfielder Phil Jagielka ending up between the sticks earlier in the week after an injury to Paddy Kenny.

Royle says he has had no enquiries regarding any more of his players. Deals involving players moving to Premiership clubs will have to be completed prior to the closure of the transfer window on Sunday.
