Atay Signs Deal

Young midfielder Adem Atay has signed the two-year professional contract offered to him last week. The right-sided midfielder or full-back impressed Joe Royle in pre-season and in recent reserves matches.

Atay, who hails from Cambridge but who spent some of his childhood in Turkey, is expected to move into a more central midfield role as his career progresses.

Town boss Royle said last week that Atay could come into first team contention at some point this season: "You never know. He's young, he's doing very well and we've been pleased with him.

"He's a very, very quick player, probably as quick as anyone in the club over 10 metres, and that's a great asset.

"He runs with the ball at people and it's hard to find an asset like that. We've got few players at the club like that, few clubs have, and his pace is exciting. If they're quick and they can control the ball then we're interested."

Atay was recently named Player of the Tournament at the U19s competition in Doetinchem, Holland which involved teams from Ajax, Borussia Dortmund and FC Twente.
