Town boss Joe Royle says that targeted loan midfielder Alan Mahon is keen to sign for the Blues. Royle spoke to the Irishman this morning regarding a three-month switch to Portman Road.

The Town manager is confident he will get his man: "I have spoken to the player this morning and he seems keen to join us. Now I'll talk to his agent and hopefully we can tie it all up today."

Royle says his side have been short of left-sided players since the departures of Hermann Hreidarsson and Jamie Clapham, and left winger Mahon will fill this gap in the squad.

Blackburn boss Graeme Souness has wished Mahon all the best in his time at Town: "He's a smashing lad and this will be a great opportunity for him to re-establish himself. Joe Royle is an excellent manager. I'm sure Alan will do well in his three months at Town."

Once the deal is complete Mahon will join up with the Town squad ahead of next week's away game at West Bromwich Albion.
