Basra Stadium Appeal Tuesday, 16th Sep 2003 16:01 Town fan Horry Money, a leading light of the Association of Football Statisticians (AFS), has asked TWTD to publicise the organisation's Basra Stadium Appeal. The appeal saw 15 people fly out to the southern Iraqi city on Monday with four Crystal Palace community coaches amongst them, as well as former Premiership central defender Neil Ruddock. The FA have provided 3028 footballs to be handed out to the community and on Wednesday the stadium will grace a game between Port Basra, previously one of Iraq's top sides, and the King's Regiment, who are involved with rebuilding the venue. The AFS are looking for commercial sponsors who will help to provide kit both for the stadium and to donate to the local young people, as part of the humanitarian reconstruction of Iraq. It is important to provide a safe place for the local youngsters to train and play and this project will help to provide that. Donations of football/athletics kits of all sizes, full-size goal nets, five-a-side goal nets, corner flags, cones, hurdles for the running track and money are requested.
