New loan signing Shefki Kuqi has said he aims to win himself a permanent deal with the Blues. The Sheffield Wednesday striker will be in the bench tomorrow at Watford.

Kuqi, who will become the first Finn to play for Town, is chuffed to move to Portman Road, telling the club site: "I believe that I am good enough to be playing First Division football, if not Premiership and with Ipswich I can achieve that."

The Kosovo-born front man was close to a Premiership move in 2002 but a deal which would have taken him to Blackburn broke down. Instead he went to Wednesday and by the summer found himself in Division Two.

He is aware that the Blues have had a poor start but is confident he can help turn the Blues' season around: "I know Ipswich have not had the best of starts but it's clear that with the players here, the team is good enough to be pushing for the play-off positions at least and I want to play my part in helping the club get there.

"The manager, Joe Royle, is well respected in the game and I know Willie Donachie well from our time together at Sheffield Wednesday."

Kuqi says he is at his best in the penalty area and aims to score goals and win himself a permanent contract: "That is my target here, to score goals for the team and help us climb the table into promotion contention.

"If I can do that, I may win myself a permanent deal. I had the chance to go to several clubs on loan last season but turned them down because I wanted to know where I stood long term.

"But the move to Ipswich is right for me now and it's down to me to show the manager over the next three months that I am worth keeping."
