Mitchell Added to Squad
Mitchell Added to Squad
Friday, 10th Oct 2003 11:59

Academy defender Scott Mitchell has been added to the squad travelling to Bradford today ahead of Saturday's game against the Bantams. Mitchell is included as cover for Georges Santos who has a groin injury.

Mitchell, who has been given the number 21 shirt, is primarily a right-back but has also played at central defence. The 18-year-old hails from Cambridge and has been at the club since from the age of 10.

Manager Joe Royle appeared reasonably confident that Santos would be fit by Saturday after the Frenchman came off in training on Thursday.

If the former Sheffield United and Grimsby man fails to make it then 17-year-old Gerard Nash could be set for a first senior start with Mitchell taking his place on the bench.

Royle's other option might be to play midfielder Chris Bart-Williams at the centre of defence. The loanee has previously played a more defensive role with his other clubs and lined-up in that position for Charlton's reserves against Town last season.

Revised squad: Armstrong, Bart-Williams, Bowditch, Couñago, Davis, Kuqi, Magilton, Mahon, Mitchell, Nash, Naylor, Price, Richards, Santos, Westlake, Wilnis and Wright.
