Petta Off
Petta Off

Town malcontent Bobby Petta has failed to show for the first day of pre-season training and has told Town he is in discussions with another club. Petta had refused to sign a contract during last season and is now out of contract. He was transfer-listed throughout last season with only Bransley coming in for him. Unsurprisingly Petta turned down the chance to move to South Yorkshire.

Petta's Town career was an up and down affair starting with a disastrous first season followed by a dramatic and brilliant second. Last season, his third, saw a huge loss of form and consistency before he returned to make two excellent displays against Sheffield United and Bolton in the home play-off leg. When he was great he was really great, but on an off day he was truly appalling. Will need to work on his consistency wherever he ends up.

Of the other players still sitting on contract offers, James Scowcroft has agreed to sign a new four year deal. The Bury born striker had another two years to run on his present contract, but Town wished to secure his services for longer to prevent him 'doing a Petta' and running off for free on a Bosman. Town only now awaiting Richard Wright's decision on his contract extension. Wright and Kieron Dyer are not due to start pre-season training until next week.
