Town have signed former Luton Town keeper Nathan Abbey on a one-month contract. Abbey comes in as cover for second choice Lewis Price who has a finger ligament injury.

Boss Joe Royle told the club site: "Nathan will spend a month with us while Lewis Price recovers from injury.

"He has trained with us and looks to be just what we need at the moment. He has worked with Kelvin at Luton and is also well known to Malcolm Webster, our goalkeeping coach."

Abbey was previously without a club but has been on short-term deals with Luton, Stevenage and Macclesfield this season.

The London-born 25-year-old started his career at Luton where he made 68 senior appearances between 1995 and 2001.

He left Kenilworth Road and moved to Chesterfield on a free transfer where he spent a year, playing 53 matches.

Abbey, 6'1" tall, switched to Northampton in the summer of 2002 but made only eight appearances before leaving the Sixfields Stadium in July for his short spell with Stevenage Borough.

The stopper will be on the Town bench for Sunday's East Anglian derby with Norwich City.
