Legendary Town striker Paul Mariner has been appointed as assistant coach of the New England Revolution in the American MLS.

Mariner, recently back in England to watch Town's 1-1 draw at Reading, will be deputy to former Liverpool man Steve Nicoll.

The ex-England man Mariner moved to the US in 1988 and coached the Albany Capitals. He has remained in America and was recently a coaching assistant Harvard University.

Mariner has also been working as technical director of the Greater Boston Bolts, a top US youth side.
