New Deal for Jamma
New Deal for Jamma

Town boss Joe Royle has revealed that midfielder Jermaine Wright will definitely be offered a new contract in the summer. Wright is one of eight senior players whose current deal ends in June.

The Blues are unable to offer the out of contract players new deals until the club is sure which division they will be playing in next season and have an idea how season ticket sales go.

However, Royle says Wright will definitely be one of those offered new terms: "Jermaine Wright will be offered a new contract - there's no doubt about that. I would dearly love to keep him at the club."

The Town boss says that Jamma could well be named supporters' player of the year after a fine season in midfield and occasionally at full-back: "I would like to think that Jamma would be on a lot of people's short lists for the award.

"Nobody has ever doubted his talent, but he has allied that to consistency and that applies to every position in which he has played.

"He is in the prime of his career at the moment and there is no reason why he can't go on to play well into his 30s, as Jim Magilton has done.

"I was misquoted a few weeks back when it seemed I was saying he should be playing for England. That's not what I said - I said that Jamma had the talent to play for his country, which is entirely different.

"You need a lot more than talent to play for England, but there's no doubt in my mind that there have been less talented players who have won senior caps."

Wright was watched by Tord Grip on behalf of Sven Goran Eriksson during the Blues' two year spell in the Premiership.
