Price Signs For Two Years

Young goalkeeper Lewis Price has signed a new contract which will keep him at Town for the next two years. It had previously been reported that the 19-year-old would agree to sign the deal which was offered earlier this week.

Price told the club site: “I spoke to the manager on Monday and didn't really need any time to think over the deal.

“I was happy with the terms and just asked the club to get the paperwork sorted out as soon as possible and I'm delighted to have signed today.

“I am really enjoying my time at Ipswich and feel I am learning all the time working alongside Kelvin Davis and coach Malcolm Webster.”

Price, who spent the early part of his academy scholarship with Southampton, made his senior debut in the 2-1 win at Gillingham in April.

Initial reports suggested that Price had been offered a one-year deal, along with most of the other seven players offered contracts, however, it is now becoming clear that some have been offered longer stays at Portman Road.

Full-back Chris Makin has been given a shorter deal - two months - so he can prove his fitness after his long absence due to a hip injury.

Makin has already indicated he intends to stay at Portman Road, while Richard Naylor expects to still be a Town player come the new season.

Fabian Wilnis, Jim Magilton and John McGreal have all been offered one-year deals which are likely to be less lucrative than their previous contracts, and are currently mulling over whether to stay at Town.

Jermaine Wright is weighing-up a new deal which is understood to be longer than a year, although as yet there has been no confirmation of its length.

Wright is expected to be the hardest to tie-down as the midfielder understood to be interesting Southampton and other Premiership and Division One clubs.
