Bent and Price Clash
Bent and Price Clash
Friday, 8th Oct 2004 10:07

Town youngsters Darren Bent and Lewis Price come face to face this evening when the striker's England U21 side take on the keeper's Wales team at Blackburn's Ewood Park. The Blues have three other players on international duty this weekend.

Both Price and Bent are keen to put one over on the other with a healthy rivalry growing as the game has got nearer.

Bent is expected to make his ninth substitute appearance for the U21s, having scored an amazing six goals in his 147 minutes on the field up to now, all the goals coming in his last 121 minutes of action.

The summer Charlton target says he hopes to get long enough on the field to end Price's international clean sheet record: "Hopefully, I will get more than a minute just to be on the safe side but I would love to score.

"The worst thing would be to get on, get one chance, and him save it. He will never let me live it down if that happens and he will be on at me until the next game which isn't until next year."

Price has won two U21 caps for the Welsh, for whom he qualifies via his father, and is yet to concede a goal.

The 20-year-old says he is hoping to repeat his spotkick success from last weekend but this time against his club team-mate: "I'm going to give him nothing. The dream would be a Welsh win and for me to save a last minute Benty penalty."

The game is being shown live on Sky Sports One from 7.30pm.

England's U21s face Azerbaijan away on Tuesday, the same day as the Welsh come up against Poland at home.

Town have three other players in international action this weekend. Jason De Vos will captain his side Canada away against Honduras in San Pedro Sula on Saturday before they take on Costa Rica in Vancouver on Wednesday.

The Canadians very much look outsiders for World Cup qualification after a poor start to their campaign. De Vos will win his 47th cap.

Finland and Shefki Kuqi face Armenia at home in Tampere on Saturday and Holland in Amsterdam on Wednesday. The Town striker is a likely sub and he will be looking to win his 35th cap for his adopted nation.

Reserves defender Chris Hogg is in the England U20 squad for their game with Holland at Huddersfield on Sunday. The match is being shown live from 12.30pm on Sky Sports Two.
