Midfielder Ian Westlake has sent a card to Preston keeper Gavin Ward to apologise for the clash which left the stopper requiring treatment to his face after last week's Championship game. Westlake collided with the much-travelled number one late on in the game at Deepdale.

Westlake said: "I have sent him a card just to say that I'm sorry and to explain that it was an accident and give him my best wishes in getting better.

"It was accidental, if anything their lad nudged me into him, but I was still upset."

Ward's injury is not as bad as was initially feared and he could be in action within a couple of weeks.
