Wright Out
Wright Out
Monday, 27th Nov 2000 14:10

Reports are coming in that Richard Wright may be a doubt for tomorrow's Worthington Cup clash with Coventry. Wright is suffering from a wrist injury and didn't train today and is rated as doubtful for tomorrow.

Should he appear tomorrow he will be making his 201st consecutive appearance for Town. If he is out then it seems that Mike Salmon may make his Town debut, he would also become the first keeper other than Wright to appear in the Town goal since 1997. Keith Branagan may also be in with a shout, although he has only played one reserve game since suffering a knee injury. It was Salmon who was on the bench on Saturday.

The squad also features a few youngsters. Sean Friars, Neil Midgley and Richard Logan have all been regulars in the reserves this season, but haven't made even an appearance on the bench for the first team.

John McGreal and Richard Naylor are both omitted from the squad as George Burley won't risk anyone suffering from even a slight knock in the Worthington Cup, another reason why Wright may not figure. Town are taking the competition seriously, but not that seriously. John Scales is likely to continue in place of McGreal while Titus Bramble looks likely to start on the bench. Other injury victim Gary Croft is also in the squad after suffering a hip problem last week.

Up front David Johnson may hope for a recall with either Marcus Stewart or James Scowcroft dropping to the bench.

Full squad: R Wright, Branagan, Salmon, Wilnis, Clapham, Croft, Karic, Bramble, Scales, Hreidarsson, Venus, Holland, Magilton, J Wright, Reuser, Scowcroft, Stewart, Johnson, Midgley, Logan and Friars.
