Wigan Sign Kavanagh

Wigan have signed Cardiff midfielder Graham Kavanagh in time for the Irish international to play against the Blues at the JJB Stadium on Saturday. Kavanagh looks like being the first of a number of players exiting the cash-strapped Welsh club.

The 31-year-old has signed a contract which will keep him with the Latics until 2007 for a fee thought to be £350,000.

Paul Jewell is also in the process of attempting to sign Reading frontman Nicky Forster but that deal isn't likely to be completed until early next week.

Wigan's illness crisis is reported to have improved today with strike pair Nathan Ellington and Jason Roberts expected to be OK, along with midfielder Jimmy Bullard.

Former Blue Alan Mahon has a knee injury in addition to the virus, while Scottish winger Gary Teale is also not thought likely to have recovered in time to face Town.
