Legends Crush Badgers
Legends Crush Badgers

Goals from Chris Kiwomya (2), John Wark and Bontcho Guentchev saw the Town Legends to a 4-3 victory over Soccer AM's Badgers at the club's inaugural Legends' Day. Town stars of the 70s, 80s and 90s took part while the Badgers fielded Justin Edinburgh, Keith O'Neill, Warren Barton and John Beresford.

Kiwomya netted the first goal in the opening minute after Neil Thompson made a marauding run down the left and crossed perfectly for his 1992 Second Division Championship-winning side team-mate.

Eighteen minutes later Alex Mathie crossed from the right, John Wark headed back across goal and Kiwomya banged in his second via the cross bar.

Town manager Bryan Hamilton used his subs (including a couple of younger ringers) liberally but the rotation couldn't prevent Matt Copcat and then former Canary Keith O'Neill from pulling two goals back for the Badgers.

Soccer AM presenter Tim Lovejoy made a rare contribution with a header off a post on 39, prior to John Wark notching a third for the Blues, latching on to a long Russell Osman ball and lashing home.

The game slowed down significantly in the second period with the only goals coming just after the hour mark when Warren Barton equalised for the Badgers and Russell Osman played in Bontcho Guentchev who lobbed the keeper for the winner.

Kiwomya had several chances to complete his hat-trick, while Micky Stockwell and Simon Milton both went close.

Neil Thompson, who like Kiwomya, Mathie and Stockwell appeared not to have aged at all since his days with Town, deservedly walked off with the Man of the Match award.

This evening sees the annual ex-players' dinner in the Galleria with some sore heads likely to be added to some sore legs.
