Town lost their second and final match of their Hungarian tour 1-0 to Diósgyõri in Miskolc on Sunday evening. The Blues fielded a more experimental side than they did against Újpest in the opening game on Friday.

Assistant manager Willie Donachie started the side in a 3-5-2 formation with Aidan Collins coming into the team as the third centre-back.

Irish youngster Owen Garvan continued in central midfield, along with Darren Currie and Ian Westlake. Nicky Forster missed out after injuring his thigh against Újpest and Dean Bowditch deputised.

The very hot weather meant the game was played at a more leisurely pace than Friday's fixture and it was the home side who would have the early chances.

Keeper Lewis Price had already been in the action once, prior to a Diósgyőri striker being put through on goal from a clearly offside position. Fortunately for the Blues, the Wales U21 international pulled off an excellent double save.

Not long after, Darren Currie put Dean Bowditch in the clear. The frontman passed to strike partner Sam Parkin but the former Swindon striker shot wide from 10 yards when he should have scored.

The lively Dean Bowditch forced the Hungarian keeper into a save on the quarter hour and 10 minutes later was again involved when he was sent away by Currie. The England U19 international's shot was blocked and Parkin put the rebound wide.

Aidan Collins inexplicably headed against own crossbar while under little pressure in the 26th minute and on the half hour Ian Westlake got his name in the book for what the referee saw as a dive.

There was a scare for Town on 33, a corner from Diósgyőri bounced across the six-yard box but no one managed to get the vital final touch.

With 10 minutes of the half remaining, Bowditch set up Parkin but the recent signing put his strike wide.

As the first period drew to a close, Collins made a fine tackle from a ball played over the top. Diósgyőri, like Újpest, were very direct in their approach.

It had been an even half, but Town had had a number of opportunities to score. At the break Willie Donachie introduced Jim Magilton, young Northern Irish defender Chris Casement, Dean McDonald and Shane Supple for Ian Westlake, Jason De Vos, Fabian Wilnis and Lewis Price.

Diósgyőri had the first chance of the second half, the ball flying into the sidenetting in the 48th minute, however Supple appeared to have it covered. Five minutes later, academy midfielder Liam Trotter took over from Dean Bowditch, the striker not appearing to have any injury.

Currie shot well wide in the 55th minute, before Collins forced the Hungarian keeper into an outstanding save with a header from a Magilton freekick.

Just after the hour, there was a mix-up in the Town defence, but Diósgyőri couldn't take advantage and the ball was cleared. Supple made a good save shortly afterwards, before Pintér was yellow carded for dissent.

Diósgyőri went ahead in the 67th minute. Supple rushed out of his goal to claim a long ball but was beaten to it by Romanian Marius Siminic who went past him and slid the ball into the net.

On 75 neat play from Town ended with Dean McDonald's low cross being claimed by keeper. As the game entered the final 10 minutes, a corner found Garvan at far post but the 17-year-old fired over.

Late on, Diósgyőri might have added to their lead but sent a good chance over the bar and Supple made a fine save from an attemtped chip. The final action saw Dean McDonald get behind the home defence but his cross was cleared.

An entertaining game in front of a passionate 4,000-ish crowd which included 26 Town fans, who were cheered when they joined in a late Mexican Wave. Diósgyőri were not as good a side as Újpest and the extreme heat had a major effect on the pace of the game.

No single Town player really stood out, although Currie looks like he will be much more of an influence than he was last season. Sam Parkin worked hard and ought to have scored, while the youngsters introduced during the game looked comfortable.

Casement, usually a central defender, looked particularly impressive at right-back, while Trotter did well in central midfield.

Town: Price (Supple 46), Wilnis (Casement 46), Richards, De Vos (Magilton 46), Collins, Naylor, Garvan, Parkin, Currie, Westlake (McDonald 46), Bowditch (Trotter 53).
