Town are reported to have shown an interest in West Ham's Welsh U21 international midfielder Gavin Williams. According to newspapers in Wales, the Blues are are apparently amongst a number of Championship clubs keeping an eye on the 25-year-old.

Williams signed for the Hammers for £250,000 from Yeovil last December but is not expected to play a big role in the Premiership next season.

League One side Swansea have had loan and permanent bids turned down but it is likely Williams will move from Upton Park at some point.

Town boss Joe Royle has made it very clear that he is in the market for two defenders at present and a move for a midfielder looks very unlikely.

Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest full-back Alan Rogers, who Royle admitted he might be interested in signing if he was to become available, is being linked with a move to Stoke City.

Former Blue Gary Croft is on trial at his first club Grimsby having been released by Cardiff at the end of last season.
